Waiting on my shipping notice, as well. But I do have a sheath for it, and some dyed and stabilized wood burls ready and waiting. Can't decide, though, whether this or the k390 mule should get the most beautiful burl. They're both such awesome steels, and so deserving. Makes me weak in the knees just to think about it. Like I got a school girl crush :p :.
I love :spyder: mules.
So, here's the penultimate existential question: which has better edge retention? k390 or s110v? :D
Still no shipping notices here from SFO or Halpern, but SFO debited my account, so I should get a notice from them soon. And Marianne said Halpern would ship this week, so I should soon hear from them too.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod Note to self: Less is more.
I picked one up Wed at 10am. Just ordered some CF scales from Halpern and once those are in need to pick up a sheath from SheathPro. This is my first Mule so I'm pretty excited about everything. Too bad I didn't know about the Mule line early on though.

Just got a call from Spyderco and got my order in. Mine won't ship until Monday, but that's perfectly fine. My compliments to the Spydercrew for working hard to get through these orders and for calling me back.
rhicks wrote:Are all Mules this quick to sell out or is it just the S110V version?
They usually don't go so quick. The previous one (K390) sold just as fast, but many others have sat around for weeks and even months before selling out.
I think people have finally noticed the Mules. The last one sold out even faster, but before that it took more time. In some cases, it took months, but that was the exception rather than the rule. I wonder if there will be any seconds to console those who missed out?
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

The high demand is probably partly because this is an exotic/supersteel. And partly because the last one (K390) sold out very quickly and that one came a long time after the previous one.

I personally just noticed the Mule from their Facebook post a few days ago. I'm absolutely hooked now. Glad I can be at their doorstep in a matter of minutes to claim the prize. :)

I agree the Mules are likely more popular now, but the Forum Native had alot to do with the feeding frenzy that snatched up the K390s.

Kind of makes me wonder what steels future Mules could use that would be an improvement?
K294 would be interesting as would a 10V mule.
K294/CPM 10V would be the next step from K390, but depending on hardness and HT one would really have to test to see much of a difference.
From CPM S110V the next step would be CPM S125V at high hardness, 63-65 RC, but not sure if that would be possible production wise and or keep them affordable as S125V isn't exactly a catalog item.....

CPM 125V isn't in production anymore. From what i gathered it was too hard to work with. I managed to snag a fantoni in the stuff and even with their heat treat it just keeps going and going. The carbides are just ridiculous. As much as I would love to see 125V I'm not gonna hold my breath. I'd like to see rex 121 too but doubt it'll happen. I'm more interested in 15V if we're really dreaming here. I was very impressed with K390 and i like my forum native but i can't wait to play with that 110v mule. Are these steels really necessary? NO. Do i still want them? YES. I've got some natural canvas micarta scales incoming and I'll make a sheath once it's all said and done. The point at which these supersteels stop cutting is one few people would ever reach without trying. I'm still impressed with S90V and M390.

Crucible doesn't recommend REX 121 as a knife steel, they say CPM 10V will give the same or better performance.
Now CPM 15V, that would be something to see at full hardness, would be a slicer though. Dunno if that could be done either in a production setting.
I don't see S125V happening either, but you never know I guess, it can be special ordered last I heard...
Those 2 steels are way up there and if they can get them hard enough with a good HT they can be really something...... But people would have to know they would be slicers.
So what would be the advantages / disadvantages between K390, K294, and S110V? I heard in threads past that K390 may be a little tougher than K294 (but not sure how it stacks with S110V) and of course S110V is stainless.
Still can't believe a company makes these blades available like this!

It depends...
All of them are in the same class: 10V, S110V, K294, K390.
Compared to each other and that's really the only way to compare them I can't see any disadvantages of any of them in use.
Toughness would depend on RC hardness and the HT and tempering process.
