I am sure if you give SFO a call they would be more than happy to add something to your order to bump it over the $150.00 mark for free shipping. Never hurts to ask.

Looks like there is 68 remaining.
I've actually done that, and yes, they do it with a smile (it's clear even by phone).

Yes, they're careful with their web inventory. Usually the full inventory is not loaded up front. That way they avoid collisions between phone and online orders.

Oh Yeah!!! And some wood I picked up to make some scales. Put my homemade scales on it to get it broke in. :D

I ordered right after 10:00 MDT, got a confirmation on the website and confirmation number, and printed it out for records, but still no email confirmation 7 hours later.

Something about their website doesn't like me. I tried to log on last night to be sure I had my account straight, it wouldn't accept my password.
I told it to reset the password and it said it would email to me. I didn't receive the email until about 10 hours later.
I tried to log in this morning using the password that they sent me and it wouldn't take that password either so I registered a new account and wrote down the username and password.
Then I realized it would be a couple more hours before they went on sale so I went back to work.
I got ready to log in 2 hours later and it wouldn't accept the login for my new account.
I had to create yet another new account to log in to make the purchase.
It should not be that difficult just to be able to give someone your money.

Sorry to hear that bdblue. I had a completely opposite experience though. A little after 4pm est I saw here that they were still available and gave in to temptation. Had to reset my password and the email was there in the time it took to close my browser and open my email. 4 minutes later my purchase was complete and I had an order confirm in my inbox...

Ordered two at 10MT. They already sent me a tracking number.

I had to start a new acct last night though, it seems my old one disappeared.

They (CPM steels) are, about five miles from here, near Syracuse. It would seem that American steel was shipped to Taichung to be fashioned into Mules.

I think all these account and password problems come form the fact that they, unfortunately, have separate logins for the site and for buying stuff. If you open an account for the site, then try to buy something, that username and password won't work. IIRC that happened to me last year when I bought my K390 mule. If you set up another password then, ironically, the new one won't work for the rest of the site. So what I did was use the same username and password for both accounts, so now I don't have to worry about which is which :)

Thanks, been on the forums for the last couple of weeks, nephew got me started researching spyderco over thanksgiving while skinning and processing deer. Afraid it is going to cost me a lot of money! Can't wait to try this steel.

Yep, looks like this is our first mule made in Taiwan, and it'll be my first knife from Taichung. Interesting that yours will wind up so close to home, assuming the steel wasn't made under license somewhere else. The info doesn't exactly say it was made at Solvay, NY, just that it was made using the process developed there, but I'd bet it was made there as well.
buckthorn wrote:Took a little extra waiting this time but I was able to order mine. May I ask two questions: How do you know how many are left? (Where is that shown?) and, the production quantity in this thread is mentioned as "600-1000". Anyone have a more specific figure? Thanks folks!
There's the "shopping cart trick." At some sites, you can enter a bogus huge quantity like 2000 in your shopping cart, and the silly cart, thinking you really want to buy that many, will show you how many are left in stock. But Kristy has asked us not to do it here, because it contributed to bogging down the server and causing some customer hysteria when the last mule and Forum Native5 went on sale. Apparently, dozens of people were doing it over and over to monitor how fast the knives were selling

The management doesn't necessarily tell us exactly how many were made, especially so soon after they go on sale. I guess it's proprietary information.

Welcome to all of the new posters. Thanx for the interest and thanx much for visting our forum.

I don't think all of the run was put out at once. We usually add each day until all gone.

We are making some of the Mules with our Taichung maker. Partially because we're pretty busy with Para's, Millie's, Manix, etc. and partially becaue the skill is there to make them right. They'll be helping us out trying to keep on schedule with the new Mule Teams.

Welcome to the forum boonedawg!

I think up to now all the mules have been made at Golden except the ones made with Japanese or Chinese steel, which were made in Japan or China. But the Taichung factory has been making knives with Crucible CPM steel for years, and everything I've heard about Spyderco knives made there indicates that they have as good or better fit and finish and precision manufacture as any made anywhere.
