Can Spyderco fix it?

#1

Post by joe58 »

Hi! My old trusty Hunter model I've had for years has been a good friend to me for a long time.

Unfortunately it has developed some side to side play as well as some up & down when locked up. Not horrible, but quite noticeable.

I haven't contacted Spyderco yet as I figured I'd ask here first to find out if this is something they can fix.

I absolutely do not want the knife replaced and if it isn't something they can repair, I'll just retire it, but I'd really like to be able to keep carrying it.

This is a model I wish they'd sprint run with S30v blade steel and G10 scales. I'd be a happy guy. But this ones been a good knife for me, even though it's a bit outdated now. :)

Thanks!

Joe

Get hold of Spyderco soon as...( Due to it's age, I would understand that there might be some type of charge...?)

BTW...nothing wrong with G2 steel...I would not be too fussed...

Sweet looking old knife Joe :) I hope Spyderco can do something for you :)

Knives do wear out though, I guess it depends on what's worn over time. Again, a very sweet looking model :)

That's a beauty! Hopefully they can do something for it.

My guess is that they will not be able too, mostly due to the pin design.

I had a pin design that wasn't quite right with side to side play, they offered to send the knife back or issue me credit and have me select something in their current production catalog, even a Sprint model.

But I will hope for the best for you and the knife.

I am sure they might be a few people in the forum that might know a very skilled person that would drill the pins out, and attempted to make better with no guarantees, and place new pins. But it will take someone skilled, and it would be costly. But I think some would be able to do it, and worth the price.

Hmmm...thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll just retire it and start carrying my G10 Forum Native more. That is one of my favorites from Spyderco as well. I just bought another actually for a spare. :)

Dang Spyderco's. Lol

I would vote for retiring that special knife and try a newer model in that line like the Stretch which will seem large at first.

There are people who do such work, Bruce Rugg for example reworked a pinned Spyderco for me awhile ago.

Nice old knife. I hope that it can be fixed...even if Spyderco can't looks like others will or can. Good luck!

I'd be interested in a sprint of it. Not too many spear point blades in the Spyderco line up...

Side to Side is easy to fix; I out my old stainless endura in a padded vice to get rid of it. Do it lightly don't over tighten it. Back and forth on a lockback though, I'd have no idea how to fix.

Can you elaborate on this? I have a centofante 3 that has developed a bit of side to side that I would like to fix.
