Loose Clip
Loose Clip
I have an FRN Delica with a metal clip. The screw holding the clip has a tendancy to work loose. Is there anything I can do about this?
New style Delica???
From one Craig to another Welcome to the Forums. Hope you enjoy! My Endura clip works loose too. I just used a nickel on each side and that worked a bit. If I want it tighter I would have to get a bigger screw driver(large flat blade) Take Care!!

I use pennies to tighten mine...
if it continues to work loose, buy some locktite. the blue stuff(red tube) is tool loosen, whereas the red(blue tube) is heat loosen. you want the blue liquid(red tube). drop or 2 on the threads and reassemble.

I'm constantly tightening that screw, with a variety of denominations... Guess I'll have to try the Locktite. Thanks for the tip.
I think the screw may be working loose because there is a little bit of "play" in the clip, it swivels back and forth a bit, and that's probably putting some torque on the screw. The clip side has the threaded insert. Is the tool-friendly locktite strong enough to hold the screw if that's what's loosening it?
As for "new style," I'm not sure, I've had the knife for a few years, but I understand from a friend of mine the clip on older Delicas was molded into the grip and not removable or reversible. I guess I'm still a newb.

Hi, Welcome CC. You are correct, the Delica you have is the new style production opposed to the early integral clip model. And yes the application of Locktite should keep the clip barrel bolt from loosening. Just make sure you have it tight in the position you wish when you secure with the Locktite.

Im surprised no one has mentioned this yet, especially VP, <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. you can reverse the clip assembly, so you have the washer oposite the clip. this makes everything sit a bit tighter. the sleeve would be in the clip side. If that doesnt work, then the tool friendly lock tite is the way to go. the red stuff means you can never take the clip off again

A washer on the opposite side of the clip should prevent unscrewing.
Also, take off the clip and clean the clip well in the handles. There could be dirt there and the clip doesn't stay thight.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This knife does have a washer on the screw, and the washer is opposite the clip. I think I got it around '98, but I'm not precisely sure.
I did notice that the clip appeared to slightly bent outwards - that is, the free end of the clip didn't contact the handle. I took the clip off, got a couple pairs of pliers, and bent the end back a bit, so that the clip would press down firmly on the handle. The screw hasn't worked loose since, probably because the clip isn't getting wiggled back and forth so much.
I've nearly lost this knife a couple of times because of the loose clip, especially having it disappear under my car seat, so this is a big improvement for a small adjustment.
