wire clip troubles?

#1

Post by knifeman63 »

Hello all! I am just looking for some feedback from all who carry a spydie with a wire clip. I own eight spyderco models but have been hesitant to purchase any with the wire clip. Looks flimsy and poorly attached, or am I being too critical? Any feedback is appreciated!!

They are attached well and are strong.I think they are to tight and harder to get in and out of the pocket. They also seem to get caught on things,I like the standard clip much better.

i have a meerkat, and i dont like the wire clip. if i carry it iwb, it tends to fly off the waistband of my boxers while im relieving myself, and i tend to not touch stuff that has been on public bathroom floors. i have a pile of like fifty useless meerkats now <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

km63,
Here a positive vote for the wire clip. I have the Ti Salsa (my EDC during the week) and Native III. The salsa's was very tight initially, but has loosened up. The III's not as tight. I find them a little more sheeple friendly and I don't scratch wooden furniture while sitting. I even put the wire clip on my S30V Native for a while, it was a little askew due to the III's form but worked. Never worn a meerkat.

My Dodo has a wire clip, and I like it a lot. It holds the knife in my pocket very securely, and is attached well to the knife.

Have no fear about using the wire clip, it's very sturdy.

My alum/tan salsa, and now my forum native(#036) have wire clips... love these 2.

my meerkat had a wire clip, but my jacket kept pulling it out of my pocket.

Thanks all for your response! I will probably not let the wire clip stop me from any future purchases, and try to get over my bias towards the standard metal clips. I appreciate the feedback!

I have a couple of knives with wire clips and I've never had any problems with them coming off. However I'm not keen on their appearance, I think the older solid clips were better. Also I had a small nightmare trying to remove the clip on a Native III to switch it to left hand carry. Having said all I think you are wise to not let the clip put you off the knife.

I dig the wire clips. Lower profile(not as obvious) and they don't get worn looking like the solids(especially the current black painted).

I have a MeerKat and that is one of the features I like the best. The wire clip is fairly ridged and won't loosen too easily.

I found that the original clipit clip has sharper edges and can scratch walls, furniture, and paint off a car, anything that I may rub up against while wearing it in my pocket. The wire clip has no sharp edges!!

I like the clip so well I seek out Spydies that boast the wire clip over the traditional clip

I almost despise the way it looks on our Native III, but it holds up well, and is very user friendly! I've noticed it's not as hard on jean pockets as regular metal clips. RKBA!
