Hey Sal did you ever design the Byrd box cutter that you talked about maybe making

I remember there was talk about a Byrd version of the folding utility knife that used utility knife blades. Something that actually worked well and had some quality not just the normal home depot/lowes junk that falls apart.

This a big, big industrial market, far larger than the personal folding knife market, and I would love to see a Spydie version of the box cutter.

Good memory. We thought about it, but decided to put off the concept for now. There are many in the market made by big players and we're pretty busy doing what we're doing.

I think it is reasonable that you decide not to make one, but I really haven't seen a reasonable quality one.

Gerber makes a very small one that is very low quality. I have a superknife that has almost no detent.


I would think a larger, full grip one would be nice and a smaller 3 finger grip one would be nicer.

Maybe someone here knows of a good quality version.

Dang I was hoping for a quality folding box cutter. I have one that I was using to cut cardboard and the blade got stuck and came out of the knife. There's too many with thin liner locks and weak blade holders. Oh well we can dream.

Gerber is about the only company that I can think of that meets your criteria. I don't know who owns or manufactures the "Superknife" brand.

Just about any Spydie can cut boxes no problem...

The only problem with Spyderco is that they don't have an easily replaceable blade for people who don't want to or don't know how to sharpen, which would make a less than stellar gift for many people.

I will take a look at Stanley and Gerber to see what options they have. I have a small folding Gerber one with a clip, but it is very difficult to operate with one hand.
