It has been hard to find even before it had been discontinued...

It was a fairly expensive knife, especially in Europe where imported goods are heavily taxed. It was also made in very limited quantities, since Spyderco had no idea what the market for a model that was both non-locking and two hand opening would be. It was basically just a version of the G-10 UKPK with a slightly shorter blade and a very small Spyderhole to prevent one hand opening. I'm sure the assumption was that most folks outside of Denmark who wanted a non-locking Spyderco would opt for the UKPK. Those factors made it hard to find. The market has changed since then, probably because more countries and localities are adopting more restrictive knife laws.

Does anybody without a lock restriction choose to carry a slipjoint?

I do. I have my share of one hand openers but have been carrying a Pingo and Swayback Jack at work for the past few months. I find that I am less likely to attract a second glance when I use a two hand opener.

Yeah I think you're right and the Pingo blade shape is very non threatening. I don't own an Italian made knife so it would make a good addition to my stable.

I too am glad for the choice of steel. This combined with the wire clip and 50/50 choil make it a must buy for me.

The handle tooling is finished. Tooling up for the blade now. Still a few months away.

I do too. Removed the clip from my Pingo and carry it as a "pocket knife." In agreement with Yuldeli on the second glance issue. I love the build quality of the Maniago Spydies. Fantastic utilitarian folder. The blade I carry when I travel outside the U.S.
