Thankfully this is not my knife but I thought I would share this Reddit post.
Prepare to cringe.
Could this be why the Dodo went extinct?

I sharpen most of my knives but had Spyderco sharpen my old blue Dodo once.
Glad I didn't try to save $1.40 and have it sharpened by whoever did that! :eek:

That's awful! I feel really bad for that guy... Sharpening is the main reason I decided not to keep my dodo

This is why I tell my friends I'll charge you for sharpening but teach you how for free. Also why I don't sharpen anything I can't replace.

Obviously somebody didn't have a clue how to sharpen a recurved blade. What a shame!
EDC Everything! Our knives are TOOLS, not 'Objects d'art'. A 'Safe Queen' is an implied insult to the designer/manufacturer.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry. Thats an abomination. They should have to provide him with a brand new replacement.

Also, as a general life rule: if you think you can't do something yourself or don't want to because its a nasty job, pawning it off on someone else isn't necessarily a brilliant idea. ;)

Oh hey, did you see this over on reddit? I've been seeing your name over there in the /r/knives and /r/knifeclub a lot and was pretty sure it was you. And yeah, it's a darn shame what happened. But it does show the importance of knowing how to sharpen your tools.

I am really sorry this happened. But I'm happy I can learn from his mistake. That poor Dodo.

The only reason why I never got a Dodo was just because I don't even imagine how to sharpen it.

And I sharpen all my blades at a very pretty nice razor-sharp level :D I do have my tools and I enjoy doing so.

But I'm lost with the Dodo, and I'll always say NO when I don't know how to do do something.

Which is exactly what the guy who destroy that very special Dodo should've said :mad:

I remember back when the blue ones first came out, someone who didn't like the Reverse "S" did a wharncliff regrind of one that actuallydidn't look too bad. That CF one could still be saved as something similar.

A sharpening service, just like a landscaper or dry cleaner, should have a way of fixing a complete hack job like this. A new knife would be in order. If someone wants to let the dude know, the local b&m here has around 4 or 5 CF Dodos in stock and would ship. I mean they should at least offer to half it with him. What if this had been a chef's knife or a barber's scissors...they make a living with the tools

I can't tell for sure without having both side by side, but I think that one may actually be worse than my old blue beater that has had the tip broken off six times.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Wow what a shame! I would contact that "sharpening service" and demand them to pay for your knife. I can't believe they sent it back to you like that.

I sharpen mine with the Sharpmaker. It's not hard. Just use the angled side of the sticks.
