Manix2 - Show the love!

#1

Post by Moroland »

Got my Manix 2 Lightweight in black a few weeks ago. Thought I'd try a larger blade to see if I like it. It is now my favorite EDC blade!

BTW, how did Eric come up with the name Manix. Is there a story behind it?

It's not my favorite to carry, as it's fairly large in my pocket (especially dress slacks during the work week).

But, it is one of my favorites as to how it feels in my hand. I think I have about six M2s.

Here's my M2 Translucent blue:

Here's one of my M2s that I had to get all the way from Australia!

The Manix has some of the best ergos ever IMO. Here's a stock M2 I reground, dyed the ball cage and heat colored the pocket clip.

Am I seeing things, or have they changed the bend on the wire clip? I recall the top bend being rectangular, while this clip looks to have a sort of triangular bend to it.

How much have you sharpened this knife? The belly looks like what happened to my M4 sprint after a bunch of sharpening. Somehow I developed a weird sort of hard bend/curve to the shape of the belly after reprofiling it. Instead of a gentile curve, it almost had a hard angle in the bend...kinda hard to explain but it made me crazy and I had to profile it until it was gone and it cost me some steel. The end result looks kind of funny but interestingly enough it didn't really lose any overall length, just belly, which I don't really mind because it makes it closer to being a wharnie. It does look kinda weird though.

Here's a pic of it before I did any heavy sharpening

And here you can see how much belly was lost

It's never been sharpened. I got it BNIB. Stand by for more photos. The belly of my S90V / CF is identical to the rest of my M2s.

OK... here come the pics. Sorry about the poor quality and lighting... my good camera is at the office. These were shot with a point-and-shoot with a tiny camera-mounted flash.

Turns out I've got seven M2s. :-) S90V / CF is on the far right.

My S90V / CF over another M2 for "belly" comparison:

Then I tried to stack them. The bellies are identical in profile. None of my M2s have been sharpened, yet.

@ Evil D, I make my own pocket clips for all my folding knives. That's why it's different :) Mine are a little stronger than stock cuz that's the way I like them. I'm going to make a stonewashed one for it soon!

That is still a significant collection, you have a great sampling of steels. I am admiring the wear on the G-10 of the regular Manix 2 (that black looks worn and polished.)
