Assist I , Assist II ; Do you know about the tip

#1

Post by SpYdercat »

I have an Assist II on its way to me. I thought it came with the glass-breaker, but that's apparently the Assist I. Does anyone know if the carbide tip can be added to the Assist II?

It can't. The protruding blunt-tip on the Assist I is part of the glassbreaker mechanism.

Just curious, why is the glassbreaker model called the 'I' when it's the second one being produced? Or did something go wrong w/the production schedule?

Is the whistle present on both models?

From what I've been told it is not on both. It seems that the diffrences are the Assist I
has tne carbide tip glass-breaker, in the place of the whistle, and also has a hood or sheild over the front of the blade. I guess the shield would help to avoid cutting an accendent victem who was trapped in a seatbelt.

I understood the hood also pops the striker out when you squeeze the knife.

That makes sense. I was conserned the sharpened end of the blade would be duled by pressing what ever made it come out.

Both models have the whistle. They made a last minute change to the glassbreaker on the Assist I which delayed production. They were supposed to be released simultaneously. Squeezing the closed blade into the handle is how you extend the glassbreaker.

I just found that out from Jim at Fox FireArms (Sawyer Cutlery).
I now have one on its way. Looks like I'll have one of each.

Not sure. I think it was something related to the shape of the carbide tip.
