Sage1 and Native5
Sage1 and Native5
I'm partial to the ~3" blade length. They fit in the pocket well and have enough blade length to keep me happy.
Of my small collection of Spydies, the Sage1 has been my most carried knife. It shares pocket time mainly with a couple of Caly3s (CF and SB) and a PM2. I've wanted to get a Native5 for a while but they've been hard to come by, so I waited for the Forum knife once it was clear that the Native5 was the model chosen.
I'm sure this is common knowledge to everyone but me, but the Sage and Native5 are very similar.
Sage1
length overall 7.125" (181 mm)
blade length 3" (76 mm)
length closed 4.188" (106 mm)
cutting edge 2.625" (67 mm)
weight 3.2oz (91g)
blade thickness .125" (3 mm)
Native5
length overall 6.95" (177 mm)
blade length 2.95" (75 mm)
length closed 4" (102 mm)
cutting edge 2.42" (61 mm)
weight 3.6 oz (102 g)
blade thickness 0.125" (3.2 mm)
The specs indicate they'd be pretty similar. Having them both now, I know I'm really going to like the Native5 as it's almost like a brother to the Sage1 (or probably the other way around). Similar size and weight. Same finger choil. Similar basic handle shape. Obviously they're a different lock, clip, and the Sage has a ramp.
I can't wait to see how the S110V performs. It just might kick the Sage1 out as #1 EDC in the rotation.

What I'd really like to see is a Native V with the CF and flat blade spine used on the Sage 1.

Long time ago, before Sage came out, Sal talking about the idea commented that Sage (half hump) will be a hybrid of Native (no hump) and Caly3 (hump). So Native5 is like a father to Sage.thurin wrote: I know I'm really going to like the Native5 as it's almost like a brother to the Sage1

The CF on the Sage1 is my favorite style of CF on the Spydies. That'd be cool on the Native. I'm curious to see what the Fluted CF is like. The Deacon wrote:What I'd really like to see is a Native V with the CF and flat blade spine used on the Sage 1.
The other part of the Sage1 I'd like to see on the native is the clip. I like the deeper carry of the wire clip vs the hourglass.
I'm not sure what I think about the swedge yet.

The Sage 1 was the knife that made me fall in love with Carbon Fiber - I'd love to see that pattern show up on more knives.

In your photo he forum knife looks almost blue. I know it's green but looks blue to me. I like!

The mid size knives are best especially in Spyderco because of the blade steels and quality of construction they perform like much larger knives. The Dragonfly size is too small for any practical use other than a fine key chain knife. Whereas the large true tacticals are too big for EDC which make the Native and Caly size perfect

Interesting. Having only tried the hump and half hump, I currently prefer hump. Hopefully by next week I'll get my hands on the no hump.bh49 wrote:Long time ago, before Sage came out, Sal talking about the idea commented that Sage (half hump) will be a hybrid of Native (no hump) and Caly3 (hump). Getting off topic here but I love the CF on the Dodo and how it's just two thick slabs of CF with no liners.CarbonFiberNut wrote:The Sage 1 was the knife that made me fall in love with Carbon Fiber - I'd love to see that pattern show up on more knives.
