diving knife

Is there a spyderco diving knife?

I really like spyderco knives and i'm itshing to buy a new knife, but for the moment there wasn't a reason to buy one... Until i figured i needed a diving knife. It is a obligatory tool after all :D .... So the ideal excuse to buy a spyderco knife, but the seems to be no more diving knives in the catalogue. I saw that there was one a few years ago but when i look in the current catalogue the only thing i see that would do as a diving knife is the jumpmaster. The folders don't really count as i dive in cold water and have gloves 3-5mm thick.

Is there or will there be a Spyderco diving knife? It would be really nice if there was :D .

kind regards

You could find a discontinued Aqua Salt or Caspian.
You could carry one of the folders locked open in a sheath.
Also, Sal said at one point that the Enuff line (or maybe just the sheepsfoot) would be offered in H1.

The caspians are the diving knives that spyderco came out with. They are both discontinued. It is an ingenius design but the holes might me to small for you if you have large hands. The knives will fit my hands but only in warm water diving. There is no way that I could use them with gloves on. The jumpmaster is a great knife. I have one attached to my firecoat. Hope this info helps and welcome to the boards.

It's a great knife but be warned, the spacing for the straps is narrow - too narrow to strap to your leg comfortably. I've fixed mine to my BC strap using zip ties - more practical position anyway.

I'm going to have to guess as I very seldom dive with gloves and when I do the fingers have been cut off. I suspect that if the gloves are loose, disengaging from the sheath could be a problem. Very thin neoprene gloves should work but "real" gloves will be a problem .... particularly at 50m on air ;-)

I went for the atlantic for the moment. For the moment I just want a knife I can store in my pocket or clipped to the bc out of my way. Eventually i will need a second knife when i will go North Sea diving. At that point it will probably be a enuf or maybe the caspian if i can still find one.

Thank you for all the help!

50 meters on air? It might be time to consider adding some helium in your breathing gas.

The Atlantic is a good choice, along with the Aqua (still on W&W as of today, SE in black or yellow).
Enuff in H1 should be a great option. Or a sheath to carry a folder open.

I managed to get a Caspian right after they were disco'd and on land with gloves it's great, I haven't dived with it yet but underwater should be similar.
A sprint Caspian may be better than a regular production because I can't see the regular sales numbers being high but the people looking for this type of knife are left with very little for better options.

If I had to choose now, in order I'd pick Enuff H1 (bc of the shape), Aqua salt, Atlantic/Pacific.

Still trying to find a good carry method for the Caspian on land :p

Edit 3f8 how do you find the Aqua? I keep looking at it and I'm always on the fence. I think if it was PE I'd have it by now, but once the SEs are gone I think I'll be kicking myself.

It's not that expensive. For me SE is the way to go. It is now in the boat box and I'm glad to have it there. If your into the sea than you need to be into H1. The aqua keeps company with a Pacfic and the H1 Enuff.

I think the Enuff H1 would work nicely

Tested the atlantic with 5mm gloves and a 1m view and i'm quite happy with it. I clipped it to my bc pocket and had a safety rope attached. I could find the knife quite easily and I was able to open it quite fine. I tested the cutting power on lad and that was great as to be expected. And the all known rust stain on the 1 was there after a few minutes diving... Bizarre they keep using the same technique if they know it will rust... I would say just drop the H1 etch.

Anyhow for a first dive with the knife i was quite pleased.

Are you saying the "1" rusted?

Jup and it went pretty quick too. Seems to happen allot. As far as I heard its due to the method of etching not due to the H1 steel.
