I hate that I have to pass on this. I have another neck surgery coming up in a month and can't afford to spend the money. I really wish I could, but being out of work for 6-8 weeks does not leave much, even though as important as the new Forum Knife. Someone please post a series of pictures opening the package when it arrives. That way I can live vicariously.
I'm sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery, Coffeeman. I hope it goes well for you with no complications. If it makes you feel any better, though, I am also going to have to pass on the Forum model at this time. I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures for us to enjoy, however. Nevertheless, a big "thank-you!" to Spyderco for making this knife possible for us. :)
Take care!

I'd love this but have a large custom bill outstanding and a woodcraft being scaled .
But good luck to those who grab one and Spyderco please bring out more coloured scales like this for current models .
The G10 material looks in some instances so much better coloured than black .
I don't know if the process is more expensive not including the diamond pattern but my green tenacious was the same cost as the normal but looks so much better.
The black was dearer but that's the coating AFAIK , and I vote for some G10 age on a matriach red would be the mutts nuts.
Is it possible to get a forum knife without the clip installed or the clip installed for left side tip up carry?
The reason is because when the clip is installed and then moved, it marks the G10 and you can see where the clip was. On most knives I wouldn't care. On this one I'd prefer no marks.
I never had any noticeable marks from the clip on any of my g10 knives from the factory. G10 is fairly durable.

Rather than marks from the clip it tends to be a faded ring where the clip was .
Many I've seen changed over have a dulled faded circle wether this is age or pressure from the clip being attached idk.
Its a bit like the groove on a liner lock the G10 takes on a smoothed appearance slightly lighter in shade than the rest of the scale.

I just had visions of a high tech version of a SWAT team standing by in a huge command center, 12 screens each monitoring traffic flow and server utilization. COOL!
I wonder if any of you kind folks might help me out on exactly how the purchase will be done. I have bought several items from the online store, including most of the mules. But they were already there. So, would one search for the for knife model number until it shows up? Same with the new mule?

Any pointers will be apreciated.

That's what I would suggest Phil. I typically just search for the steel or model number after the scheduled post time! Other than that, the process should be like your previous purchases.

Hi Phil,
At the appropriate time when the item goes live you can search for it. 99% of our product is listed on our site by the model #. In this case the model # is C41GGR5 (the model # is the SKU without the "P", "PS" or "S" which notates edge configuration. You can also search by it's simple name, "Native". And finally, once it's live it would also appear in the "New Spyderco" section under the catalog, http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/list.ph ... n=spyderco.
Hope this helps!
There is nothing more important than this one day.
I'm pretty pumped about this knife. I've become pretty bored with mid/back lock knives, but I have a lot of history with the Native and have yet to get the 5 so I'm excited about it. I already know I'm going to love the ergonomics so there's no surprises there. That said, I would kill to have a compression lock version of the Native 5. I can live with the mid lock no problem, but I would be so much happier with a compression lock.
I have to be honest though...I have no love for that green color. I may be part of the minority here though. I would much rather have an olive green color than the pine tree forest green, but I do like that texture a lot and I hope this knife is a sign that we'll be seeing more CNC cut designs like this in the future on more models. The design looks simple enough to recreate that I'm tempted to use some graphing paper and a hacksaw blade to cut the same design into some of my other knives.
