Spot on!

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

It's late and I couldn't think of a better title. I'm still fairly new to Spyderco and this means that I'm still discovering amazing looking knives that are sadly discontinued. This leads me to the Spot. Anybody still own/use these?

More importantly any chance of Spyderco doing a sprint run or bringing them back?

I have an old Spot lying around somewhere, being overshadowed by the sheer awesomeness of the Swick ;) Both nice little knives, but I don't believe they were particularly popular when they were around.

Yep! :) Got a couple of them.

Interesting little knives. Great knife for opening boxes.

What's the purpose of the "filler button" in some of the Spydie holes? Sheath retention?

Yes, :) spot on, sheath retention.

If you look at the first photo, you will see a matching bump in sheath.
The rivet was added in the newer model.
The one on the far left hasn’t got a bump, being an earlier version..

Thanks, Reject.

Now that you pointed it out, if I had looked back at the sheaths, it would have been obvious... lol

Reject it was your posts in the fixed blade threads that got my attention in the first place.
So I guess they're not coming back :(
I would love to have a spyderco neck knife.

 Found most of of these on Ebay.

Country Knives is showing as having some in stock.

The photos of the Spot on the site are showing the early version without the rivet.
But the Spots they have are the updated one with the rivet.

The Spot is a great little knife, but I find the Swicks to be a bit more practical. The "scales" on the Micarta Spot were a nice idea, but the handle configuration on the Swick 2 is very well suited to putting scales if whatever thickness you like on it. It's possible on the Swick 1, but a definite improvement on the 2.

I would be interested in a Spot that had a bit longer blade, sort of a fixed blade Lil' Matriarch instead of a fixed blade Cricket.

this thread on BF also has a discussion of a collaboration regarding a new neck knife for the military... not sure if this knife is the same that Sal if referencing as a Swick 3 in the first thread, above...

Carried my Spot when I'd go out for a run, until I switched over to an Emerson LaGriffe. Always thought the serrated version would make the ultimate box-cutter.

well... Sal said the Swick 3 was close in that first thread, but I didn't hear any mention of any neck knives from Blade show attendees... so I don't know how far out they really are...
