Full Flat Ground Full Serrated Endura/Delica

#1

Post by Scottie3000 »

In the past I was never a big fan of serrated edges. Mostly my experiences were from combo edges that in my eyes at the time were just a waste of half a knife; I still hate combo edge. Fully serrated on the other hand has proven to be highly useful. I've been carrying a fully serrated Endura exclusively for a couple weeks, (write up to come in a few more weeks) and find the biggest limitation to be the sabre grind.

We already have FFG Enduras and Delicas, would it bee too much more work to offer them with full spyder edge? Right now I think the only options for FFG SE are the Police (a tad large) and the Dragonfly (a little small).

I'd be interested in serrated FFG versions. I wonder if the reason we haven't seen any yet is due to sales considerations, or might there be some technical issues making the serrations that thin?

would FFG SE cut any differently than saber SE? Is this for aesthetics or function?

Function. There would be significantly less steel to push through thick pieces of cardboard, for example.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Exactly this! The shoulders on the sabre grind seems to bind up pretty hard in cardboard, and especially foods like apples.

Personally, I would rather have the saber SE than FFG. All my spyderedges cut well, but it is not a clean cut and to me the SE Endura in saber is a bruiser and a work horse that can pry with that tip. FFG Endura in SE would be like putting mud tires on a sportscar. I could be wrong, and am open to being shown.

I suppose we just have two different philosophies of use. I generally don't pry and would happily give up some prying ability to to gain a lot of slicing ability. Everything is a compromise just like your mud truck and sports car; both have their strengths and weaknesses. I guess if we're following that metaphor, I'm a little more sports car and you're a little more truck.

I would buy it...if the serrations were on the right side of the blade instead of the left ;)

I would like to see both these and the Para2 available in SE as well. In fact, threads like this make the hunt for a serrated Stretch FRN very tempting. I know there are a few left out there for about $70 :) .

I have an SE Stretch, and it is a joy to cut with. Also, the Tenacious is FFG SE.

I think I need to keep my eyes out for a SE Stretch until (if ever) we see FFG Enduras with SE.
