Thinking about next spydie...

#1

Post by Sonik »

Hi guys,

I'm planning carefully my next buy and I'd like some advice from you!

At the moment I own:
Endura 4 VG-10 PE
Delica 4 VG-10 PE (my favourite)
Manix 2 SE
Dragonfly 2 VG-10 SE
Lil Matriarch
Tenacious PE (my hard use knife)

I think the next in the series could be a Stretch...what do you think?
Blade should be between 3 and 3.5 inc...

Thanx!

Do you notice big differencies from stretch 2 and PM?
I know nothing on S30V steel...is it easy to sharpen like vg10?

The Stretch is a great choice, it looks like you gravitate to FRN handles. I think you would like it.

I like s30v and find it a tad less easy to manage than vg-10.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Stretch! Do it, you won't regret it. Like the other FRN knives, only better. :p

For some variety, jhw's suggestions of Paramilitary 2 and Native 5 are also solid contenders.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Those are some good options, doesn't make it easy, huh? ;)

I adore the Stretch, probably my favorite knife. The Lil Matriarch has earned a special place in my rotation though...it's like a Delica that watched an action movie :D . Really handy overall knife and small in the pocket.

Due to the overall heft and G10 the Manix2 is probably the most impressive. It's not as comfortable to pack on you as a Stretch but practicality isn't always welcomed in these decisions.

if the Delica is your favorite you might look at a native. Better ergonomics in my opinion, a lot of knife in a small package. don't ignore the frn version either. it's an amazing knife that I personally like more overall over the g10 native v.

All specs aside if I were you I would wait for the this forum knife native 5 to drop.

So the choiche seems to be: Native 5 or Stretch?
Both are amazing knives!
I love the Stretch's ergo but the N5 specs seems to be more EDCble to me...
There is also the steel and price difference...so for the same price of N5 I could take ZDP Stretch...

The PM 2 seems more substantial to me. I find I am equally bad at sharpening all steels. Seriously all of my knives stay sharp with the help of a Sharpmaker and a strop. If you go the Native route you might as well wait on the forum knife as others have suggested.
Thanks,

If you like FRN, the Goddard Sprint run looks really nice...

Does anyone have a Goddard and a Stretch they could snap comparison pics of? :)
