Time for a Pro-Grip update - Need input
We think it is time to update the Pro-Grip. The design philosophy is for a "Hunting design" with EDC capability. I do have a rough plan in mind. My current plan is an up-size to 3.5"-3.75" blade, full flat grind VG-10 and a new name. I have some thoughts and dwgs, but I would like to hear your input.

Sal,
Hmmmm... Hunter/Pro-Venator/Pro-Grip... A Pro-Ven Hunter II?? The knife certainly has pro-ven itself capable of any tough chore. Great ergos and love the grippy Kraton inserts on the handle and clip.
Why not S30V?
Keep the same ratio of belly when you extend the blade.
Ridges behind the hole on the spine.
Lmited runs of Ti, G10, and CF handles might keep me off of Tim's site for a while as long as you're open to suggestions!
Stay safe! Stay sharp!

Make it 3", G-10 with a compression lock.
VG-10 with flat-grind would indeed be very nice.
Needs to have an open spine like the Military for easy cleaning since it's a hunters knife.
I think 3.5"-3.75" would make it too big for an all-round EDC/Camping knife. And it would have serious competition from the Tim Wegner Professional Hunter.

It is a privilege to have this opportunity. The larger tracks pro grip would solve most of my problems with the knife. I would love to see a compression lock or better yet that stainless steel frame lock you are talking about with the ATR. If construction stays the same about G. 10 with the same inlay a bowe Dent and the drop tip blade from that 3 oz. fixed blade, sorry I can't remember the name the upswept would be more traditional but I personally think the drop tip is more functional for everyday carry and better looking I would like a 75-25 with emphasis on seriation with a variation to fit the dynamics of the blade. Thank you very much.
3.25" blade would be nice. Drop the SS version for G-10. And how about giving the FRN some Native 3D treatment? More ergo handle w/finger reliefs plus ambi wire clip.
JMHO,but I wouldn't consider a compression lock. On an MBC like the Gunting, fine. But on an EDC they're a pain to use. Hey,how about dumping the SS for camo or OD G-10 w/a Ball lock? With a 3.25" blade, that would rock!

Ideally it would be available in plain edge. I like the g-10 idea, but that really depends on the market segment you are trying to capture. If not g-10, I agree with Carlos... 3d FRN w/ bi directional volcano grip.
And a nice large thumb hole.
Large choil area for choking up.
What are the pro's and con's of different colors?
Pro's:
Different color may be found easier if dropped in the woods
Different color may be more sheeple friendly
Con's
Depending on color, may not have mass appeal
May not be "subdued" enough for some hunters/outdoorsman
About the name, if you give it a hunting name it will kill the edc/mass market appeal. Take a look at the Wegner. Awesome knife. It makes a great EDC, but more marketing should have pushed the edc aspect. Your average Joe may not look at it if it is marketed strictly as a hunter. By all means say that it is an excellent hunting knife, but package it as more of the edc aspect.

The Pro-Grip isn't quite my style; it's among my wife's favorites, as usually
But...
I remember I've seen at hamonoichiba.com a knife they called Spyderco "K" and it looks like a FRN Pro-Grip with a C05 Standard blade. Now I know that the particular blade shape of the Standard is not quite suitable for hunting... but I like the way it looks.
Maybe that integral zytel pocket clip should be replaced with a metal one, like the Calypso jr.'s

Other than 'adding' the option for tip-up carry, and changing the lock to a compression lock, there is not much that I'd change on it. It fits my hand very well, and feels more comfortable than many fixed hunters. And personally, I disagree with the notion that a compression lock is not EDC usable (strictly personal opinion based on my own daily usage), I use my Gunting as an EDC despite it's obvious MBC design (it's a great usable knife for most tasks), and find disengaging the compression mechanism quite easy to do. Bottom line, familiarity, plus, I won't use a utility knife if it has either a liner lock or lockback, way too many closecalls (albeit, most of them were with well used knives).
