Or, if you're really one of those backpacking Gram Weenies - a Manix 2 Lightweight weighs under 3 ounces, still has an excellent cutting edge and strong ball bearing lock, and packs about the most knife-per-ounce I've ever seen. It's become my go-to backpacking knife.Blerv wrote:Probably the closest thing is a Manix2.

I couldn't disagree with this more. BD1 has performed amazingly well in my experiences.Donut wrote:I'm thinking BD1 isn't going to perform well enough for outdoorsy stuff.
How long do you intend to go back packing for?

I will second the idea of the Salt series. I like the Salt series because it gives you a worry free blade that is very light and reliable. When backpacking it is not always possible to stay dry and worrying about your blade rusting is low on the priority list if it is raining. It will also be good to know what you will use the knife for when backpacking how long you will be out and where you will be. I went for years with just a Swiss Army Knife and nothing more. I even did severa trips with just a leatherman micra. If you plan on chopping wood with it or taking down some prey :p then you will need much more than what has been suggested.
I’ve come to conclude that Fettucini Alfredo is just Mac-and-Cheese for food snobs.

I plan to go for about 3 days average. moisture isn't going to be a big problem. i just need a big, tough and solid blade. also i am looking for a blade that can take hard use. I'm talking HARD use. Thats how i use my knives and that's how their meant to be used.

That's now how a folder is meant to be used. Buy a fixed blade.Knivesinedc wrote:I just need a big, tough and solid blade. also i am looking for a blade that can take hard use. I'm talking HARD use. Thats how i use my knives and that's how their meant to be used.

In that case, you may want to consider the Benchmade Bone Collector fixed blade Skinner series. I never go hunting or camping without both the 15005 and the 15015.Knivesinedc wrote:I plan to go for about 3 days average. moisture isn't going to be a big problem. i just need a big, tough and solid blade. also i am looking for a blade that can take hard use.
