I'm not real crazy about the green...honestly I can't for the life of me understand why Spyderco continually avoids making red scales for Forum knives. I know red is reserved for trainers, but C'MON. Red scales, black DLC blade, laser etched logo on the blade. Honestly, why not just take the standard steel model and do this color combo with a logo on the blade at a much cheaper price, and then leave the exotic steels for sprints? :headscratch:

Sweet. I have held off on getting a Native5 because they have been scarce, my patience shall be rewarded!

I'm still having dreams of people having uncles and grandmothers each ordering two knives and me not getting my one. After getting burned before I'm expecting the worst, and hoping for the best. That is one beautiful forum knife and very desirable!

Is there any checking that the people ordering are forumites? I'd sure feel better about them if they weren't going to flippers but staying with people who actually hang out in our community here. :)

They have done burgundy in the past. The Persian G10 seems pretty red in photos. I agree.

Normally I'm a cost whiner but at $150 or so this forum knife isn't much more than the base model ($112 at Cutlery Shoppe). I'm guessing most of that is being put into grinding belts and other associated limited run expenses.

PS: Red with black blade? You might take your temperature Evil...there is a very small chance you have been infected with the Mall Ninja virus. :D :p jk

Wow. The wait is finally over! After missing out on the purple native... I am so excited to get this one! I am so happy Spyderco is keeping the price a bit lower for us :D

ok, so I'll agree with the Evil one on the red and black, I was a bit evil in my day.
(Not that I am an angel now)

I am not a green fan either, but there is more to the knife to me than the color.

So, Mastiff sounds like you and I both will be going to sleep tonight counting little
green forums knives jumping over a fence into an empty canyon.

While I'm not a huge fan of the Native, I will definitely try to get one of these. I may not post as frequently as some but I enjoy the forum and the fact that Spyderco was willing to make a knife for us is pretty cool.

I have never had a forum knife before. I sure hope i am able to get one of these. While the Native is not my favorite platform the idea of 110V and those super sexy, green-diamond scales makes me want one really bad. fingers crossed.....

Normally I'd agree, but those are the Spyderco colors man! Either that or make one scale black and one red lol.

And you have a good point on the price difference. For a mere ~$40 more you get a ridiculously better steel (of course, better is subjective). I would gladly pay $40 more to get this steel in other knives.

Green is good. I love green. It was hard for me to decide between Small Manix and Lil T back in 2006. Lil T won because it is green. For the same green reason I bought Stag Arms Manix

May be intend is for more forum knives will see some use, instead of being showpieces. I cannot beleive I said this........about use
David,
also, this way is less expensive: people will need to buy just one knife and will have forum knife + supersteel. Your way is more expensive: we will need to buy two knives: Evil's knife + super knife :)

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I think you should get to order by date joining the forum. That would probably keep me fom getting one, but the thought of someone joining just to get a collectable that should go to a contributing member chaps my ***. I would like 1, and would use it, not horde it. If I don't get one so guys like JD Spydie, Mastiff, Blerv, Ken, Deacon, Mr. Blonde and the OG's around here get theirs, so be it. The difference is I came here because I only buy Spydercos and have discussed my favorite models a bunch since joining. And if I don't get a forum knife, I will still be here for the right reasons.

It's not that I don't like green...my Mustang is green, just more of an olive green. Either way, it's easy enough to dye it :D

Just for clarity, because it may not have been crystal clear, the price for forum members won't be $240 but 60% of that (roughly $150)? Not cheap by any means, but hugely less than the only other S110V folder I've got that had a well-tempered blade. :spyder:

Well, not a dream but a nightmare, and yes, I think it's a pretty good assumption that this happens, based on what has happened with similar knives in the past. :(

I appreciate the sentiment, Jeremy, but this will be the Spyderco version of a Busse Ganza ;) Just stay ready. Monitor the forums 24X7. It's as fair and equitable as it can be.

That said, I SO hope I get two. Both will be used. While I do "store" knives I'm not using I don't do the "safe queen" thing. And the "regular" Native has proven itself (to me) to be one outstanding design. I'm so excited for this... Couldn't have picked a better offering (and like Roman, I LOVE green!)

You have a very admirable mindset Jeremy :) . This forum is built by people (new and old) who work together to share, learn, and have fun. It's a very unique place on the web.

I'm hoping it all works out for the people who want one. There will always be profiteers but if Spyderco has enough to last about a day of sales that would be awesome. I can find a way to wake up early and get my name in the hat, it's far more fair than assuming special treatment. We are all equal after all, and who knows? Maybe a flipper will become a valued member. :D

Sal has expressed his desire for affordable forum knives many times and I understand his point. But that doesn't mean that every forum knife should be under $100. If every third forum knife is more upscale that seems to me to be fair for everyone. Perhaps once the factory expands they will actually have some idle capacity and can start doing forum knives every year or two which would do much to solve the availability problem.
