Lionspy or straight up lion steel?

#1

If you were looking to buy a more expensive piece and were choosing between the lionspy or a regular lion steel, lets say sr1, or whatever model that's somewhat comparable, what would you go with and why?

I have the Lionspy and love it! It is a beast! However, I am getting the Nutnfancy Special Edition SR1 A. If it is as good as my lionspy I will be very happy. I should have it this week and I could give you a better idea of the differences when I have both in my hands.

P.S. I am waiting on a matt purple Lionsteel Ti Spine I have higher hopes/expectations for that due to price. :D

I currently own the Lionspy and 3 SR-1s (one titanium/Sleipner, one titanium/Damascus, and one aluminum/D2). All are great knives. Gave my opinions and comparisons in this thread (continues with measurements a little later in the thread). The only addendum to this thread I would make is that I have now sharpened all three steels used in the SR-1s. For me, all sharpened easily to a wicked edge!

If you want the hole go with the Lionspy, if not go with their model.

This thread is the right occasion to tell You what I'm doing :)
I waited to have enough money, and two weeks ago a ordered the LionSpy from an U.S. dealer. I think It should arrive between a week.
At the same time, a friend decided to sell his SR1, and I bought It. He will give me personally the knife at E.X.A. (Italian weapons show) next weekend.
This as been my choice with this knife...not to make differences :)

I have been debating this as well. The big negative on the Spyderco for me is no liner on the G10 side.
I still cant decide.

I have one, the G10 side is so thick and beefy there is no need at all for a liner.

CS has the LionSpy on sale, it almost tempted me into buying it today, but I resisted (so far :) ).

I saw the Lionspy CS sale on Wednesday and had to jump on it. The deal was just too good. It was almost like discontinued prices! I guess Jeff made the Lion Steel or Lionspy decision for me LOL

The Lionspy came in today. The very first thing i noticed is the lines of this knife are very clean and it feels very refined. It does not feel like a typical Spyderco. Difficult to explain i suppose.
One thing i really like is the white blade etching that is used. Very nice touch!
I am pretty happy with this purchase. I was initially concerned by the lack of a liner on the G10 side. I guess i'll just get used to it. I suppose i just wont go batoning with this knife :P

My Friends, it is official: I lost MY Lionspy!!!
It never arrived... I would like to post the mail of payment, but I don't want to be wrong with the dealer: certainly not his fault, He has more than 40000 positive feedback on ebay, and I bought other 2 Spydercos by him without any problem!
Unfortunatly now I can't do anything with Paypal or Ebay, it's too late! Without an express shipping is more or less normal to wait more than 45 days, so now I'm screwed
I just hope that now MY Lionspy is under the sea and not in the hands of an incompetent. The first knife I lose in my life is a Lionspy, not a bug... :( let me cry...

Sorry to read that. I hope you can enjoy that SR1, I have both titanium and aluminum versions, great knives. Lionspy has obviously the spyderhole advantage and Elmax (maybe) is a little better steel, but ergonomics aside the original titanium SR1 is a superior knife, a true masterpiece.

The SR1 is of a friend, so I haven't yet taken... I would have taken it after the Lionspy, because I aesthetically prefer the Spyderco version.
Is more for the disappointment, I'll surely buy another, but these things, when they appen, hold you back to do others international shopping... :(

Sorry to hear of your loss. If you are looking to buy another, Cutlery Shoppe has them listed for 50% off retail price now (so $250), which seems like a pretty good price. I don't know what they charge for international shipping though.

Did the seller of your knife not ship it insured? Or do they not have insured shipping for international orders?

I've bought a lot overseas, only once bumped into a scammer and another few times had to pay taxes in the customs. I hope you're lucky next time.

I have both and I lovem both but the lionspy has a 1 up on the sr-1 with the spidyhole.the titaniumnon the back is sweet and the g-10 patern design us very eye appealing and gritty but smooth.I love the pocket clip.I am getting the Minny sr-1 one it comes out.I have the all titanium sr-1 and the work to make that handle must be tough but it rocks and the locking frame lock makes this knife a workhorse and the elmax blade is so thick you could easly chop down a tree.the sr-1 would be tied with the ljonspy if it had the spydie hole. They both are pretty much the same except for that.but it is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet workhorses.
