Kidney stones aren't fun
So i was woken up by a pretty sharp pain to my back left side around 0430 this morning. I tried everything from trying to hit the head to meds to curling up on the couch, nothing helped. I then proceeded to drive to work around 0600. Just when i didnt think it could not get much worse the side bolsters of the chair in my car decided to tell me different. I never experienced pain like this before and I was starting to freak out a bit. I don't like going to hospitals, who does really but when i finally made it to work I hopped on the ambo in the house and told them to drive. Then the pain moved to the front from the backside. It hurt even more doing that, meanwhile i have the guys on the ambo who are from the house jagging me off to no end.
Do we need the fat-tarp? nah he can walk!
How many months pregnant are you?
Those aren't kidney stones, they are bacon bits.
well you get the idea. About 10 minutes in the waiting room and boom pain is gone, just as quick as it came on. Freaky stuff. 4 hours of waiting at the hospital and they finally let me go back to work. The only good thing that came out of this was a very attractive asian Dr had to give me a thorough examantion . So that was my Easter, I hope you guys had a better one :) .

Hey Tony,
I feel for you dude.
I passed one a few years back. The most intense pain I've ever had. I was crawling around in the floor going back and forth to the bathroom. Took all day and half the night before that little bugger came out.
It was small, about the size of a grape seed, but looked like a sea urchin, sharp and spiney.
Hope your ordeal is over!
Later,
Don

No they're not I know peeing a razor blade is a good comparison .
An aside depending on your medical insurance I'm in uk so don't know how it works.
If you have stones that are yet to enter the uretha you can have them broken down by ultrasound so its less painful.
Many treatments can almost rid them but I don't know wether this would be a case of if the kidney was covered in them before they did this.
I hope your situation improves abstaining from alcoholic drink helps in some instance but hopefully it was just the one good luck mate.

Wow, sorry to hear that Tony. I never had kidney stones but I had a kidney infection that had my kidney hurting like I had been kidney punched and I was folding in half like I was a in labor. It would spasm then quit for a while, then begin again. That was back when we had Kaiser Permanente and they just gave me antibiotics and sent me home. :) I was driving and had to pull over during the spasams.
They said at the time it was like I was passing kidney stones. I figure if that is what it feels like I never want to go there again.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Tony. Been there, done that, several times, so I know they're most definitely not fun.

I'm fairly lucky in that I have about 10x 5mm kidney stones (used to have 15 at the peak) but they don't hurt one bit ... mild soreness when you pass one but nothing to worry about. The nurses and radiologists all scratched their heads and said I'm a medical miracle. My father had them really bad though so I feel for you - they are supposed to be about the worst pain you can get and there's nothing you can do about it either. One guy I chatted to at the hospital had 1 and his face was grey like death and he described how he'd spent the night writhing in agony on the floor ... not nice
The best thing I have done to limit them is to drink plenty - 3 liters of liquid minimum per day, every day - works a treat :)

Thanks for the well wishes everybody. The pain i had according to the docs was the stone going from my kidney to my bladder. I never felt it passing all the way out, thank goodness. I really don't drink much alcohol at all so I am hoping this was just a fluke, fingers crossed.

They don't have to be big to hurt like ****, Tony. First one I had wasn't much bigger than a poppy seed and only mildly irritating when I passed it. However, while it was moving out of the kidney it felt like someone was sticking a knife in my back and twisting it about once a minute for about 12 hours. Hospital gave me as much Demarol as they could, as often as they could, and it didn't even touch the pain. Never bothered going in for any of the others. Figured it was a waste of time and money, not to mention that every bump in the road on the way there made it hurt even worse.

In my Prayers SIR
Tony you will most definitely be in my prayers Sir :) I know exactly where you are on the pain scale>> my old boss was an "anesthesiologist" and a pain clinic specialist on top of that. He told me about 5 years ago that the very worst pain he ever dealt with in his 40 years of practice was one rare form of cancer that I couldn't pronounce but I could spell it out for you and he said that a very close second to that was "kidney stones" like what you have.
He also told me that there were only about 2 dozen times in his practice that he used stuff more powerful than morphine and about half of those pain problems were indeed kidney stones. I've been battling 2 blown out knees and last year I had that ankle infection that was truly sent from **** itself>> so sir I do have a bit of a clue of where you're coming from.
I will even put you on our prayer list at our church. But there is hope and I'm sure they have very good ways of dealing with it. GOD be with you my friend and do keep us posted on your progress that I deeply believe will be forthcoming. JD Spydo

Thanks JD, like i said, 15 minutes into the hospital stay and it was gone. My sides and back were a bit sore from the spasms but other than that I am A-OK as of now :) Send those prayers to others who need it but i appreciate it. I hope you get well yourself. :)
