Early spring bike ride

#1

Post by Evil D »

Had a fairly nice day today, so me and the fam got our bikes out and hit the trail. We saw 10 deer, about 100 squirrels, one buzzard and one mostly devoured opossum.

Of course, had to throw in at least one knife pic..

A group of 6 does almost ran right into my son crossing the trail. We cut one of them off and I got some pics as she trotted along..

Good man, great pictures. Most of our snow has melted in the BC interior (17C today) and I am blowing the cob webs off the bike, I hope to ride this weekend. Nice to get out with the kids, my nine year old daughter asked me if we should start mountain biking together this year (finally some of those Pinkbike videos worked there magic).

Mine is only 4, she has her own bike but she doesn't have the speed or stamina to keep up on the trail so she rides behind momma's bike on a trail-a-bike but she wanted to ride with me so I threw her on my shoulders for a while. My son is 10 and rides my old street bike from back in my hey day when I was younger and rode way harder lol.

Kudos to you, David. Not only is bicycling a great way to spend time with your kiddos, but it's also a great way to excercise. :)

Yes she is a cutie, I am sure at 10 your son is right there. I think my girl will be fine now that she is older she is getting to be fit enough. Still I need to ease her into it gently, I don't want her to have an out of bike experience the first time out. Fortunately now we live in the interior of BC where we have more of a broad range of terrain. We used to live on the North Shore in Vancouver and that is a little bit of a steeper learning curve. I hope to get her out this year it is a big passion of mine that I would love to share with her.

I have that Brooks B-17 on my touring bike and a B-17N Imperial on our tandem. Love those saddles. I'm doing a 237 mile ride in May with three friends. Since I'm flying in I'm bringing my B-17 to put on the rental bike.

Actually Evil I'm flying to St. Louis, driving to Louisville for my niece's wedding and then to KC, taking the Katy trail back to St. Louis.

Is "Northern KY" close to Louisville?

Like the Brooks saddle.

Ran a Titanium Swallow for a number of years. Super comfy once broken in.

man that sprocket is tiny, I know it is for racing but you must be pedaling a ton at any sort of decent speed.

Nah not quite, I'm only about 15 minutes from the Ohio line so I'm really far north.

I don't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure I have a 30 tooth sprocket on the front and a 9 tooth on the back, so the ratio equals out to feel about the same as your typical classic 44/16 BMX bike. The reason they changed everything and made it all so small was to save weight and to get more clearance from the bottom of the sprocket. You wouldn't believe how light this bike is despite being strong as a tank.
