Probably. The exacty rules are:Astrozombee wrote:I wonder if the blade locks will be a factor. I'd hate to have my Dragonfly tossed in the trash.
Still can't fly carry-on if I plan on shaving on a trip.TSA wrote:Permitted:
- The blade must be no more than 2.36 inches or 6 cm in length – from tip to where it meets the handle or hilt
- The blade must be no more than ½ inch in width
Not Permitted:
- Knives with locking or fixed blades
- Knives with molded grips
- Razors and box cutters
All God's critters have knives.

Well, the so-called molded grip means that I will have to change my design a tad...no sweat...

...although the wine-type knives are rather radically molded...

The molded grip stipulation will count the kiwi out, probably even a bug
I wonder if my Leatherman Squirt would fly? No pun intended.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT bring logic into a discussion that involves the Federal Gov especially the TSA. You have been warned!!Jazz wrote:What does a molded grip have to do with anything? , and isn't the SAK's grip (scales) molded?

The numerical specs are no biggie, thats easy to design for. The thing that has me concerned is the "molded grip" clause, as the images indicated machined aluminum handles as "molded" and yet a molded plastic victoronox handle as being not. I really don't understand what they mean by "molded."
Honestly heres to hoping Spyderco just makes a knife, gets it approved by TSA, and then puts it into a production with a laser etch on the blade explicitly stating "this knife has been approved for carry by the TSA on XX/XX/XXXX" so we don't have to worry about it.
I still don't understand what blade width has to do with it but...... What are they afraid that if you were to try and stab someone with a <2.5" non-locking knife that the wound channel would be too wide? Thats the stupidest thing I've heard today. Anyone ever heard of a non-metallic knife? Prisoners kill each other with sharpened toothbrushes. The twin towers were taken down with box cutters. Can we please stop pretending that confiscating granny's toenail clippers and cavity searching your 9 year old child is making us all safer?

You!
You just stop right there! What do you think you are doing by trying to bring logic and common sense into the TSA!! It will not happen on my watch!

That sound you hear is the sound of many people grinding down the blades of their UKPKs to fit...and then looking at the silly molded handle guidelines with amazement. o_0

Some of the smaller tools look to be okay if I read things correctly but then again, this is the TSA. This was approved in order to be consistent with other countries? In that case, they should let people keep their shoes on and keep their laptops inside their luggage as well. Rant off.
