Paramilitary 2 tip issues
So I own 2 PM2's one of which I do use, the other is the orange special edition. Somehow both of the tips have broken off on them, and I don't even use the orange one. Has anyone else had any issues with the tips on their PM2's? I do like how acute the tip is, but it has been proven to me that they are too weak.
it all started november 2010.. now Im up to 16:spyder:'s and 2 BYRD's and still, theres many more to come. thanks sal :p:D HUGE thanks to my dad for my newly accuired Orange manix 2!:D

How much of the tip broke off? Are you prying with it...?
I have EDC'd my PM2 for a year now, and the only issues I have with the tip is getting it as sharp as the rest of the blade. I will ONLY pry with it if I know it's something I can do with my fingernail or something soft.

DLC PM2, FFG Delica, Wave, ESEE 4, Izula
I use my Para 2 at my work daily and have not broken the tip in 2.5 years and many sharpenings. A usefully fine tip is delicate and demands respect and self awareness when being used.
I also cannot fathom how you can break a tip on a non user knife. Does the case it's in need thicker glass to protect the tip better?

PM2 tips aren't a new thing. I was almost scared to use mine in case I dropped it.
Still haven't broken the tip. If you pry you can't expect the tip to last, drop, same deal. Normal or really heavy duty you've got a case, even then look at the tip. Maybe its a steel choice or something?
Don't change the paras based on tip breakage threads, if recalls/repairs warrant it then yes but I'm not convinced you can make that point on any blade of matching lenght/width and not have a few break.
Sucks for the broken tip owners, maybe a free regrind?

Maybe someone used them when you weren't looking?
Were they bought new from a reputable dealer or second hand?
A quick way to snap a tip is to stab a blade into wood... learned that lesson long ago, but luckily on a cheapo knife.
The pointy tip has always been a great feature of the Paramilitary and has never proved to be weak on the three models I own including: M390, CTS-XHP, and CPM-S30V.

They are very insidious and they break para tips when you're not looking. They are the para tip gremlins. They are also nastier than millie tip gremlins...

Don't own a PM2, but I regularly use knives with more acute tips and thinner blades. Last time I broke a tip was about 20 years ago, and I knew exactly what I'd done wrong. I'm inclined to think either your memory is faulty, your memory is selective, you're doing something with your knives without realizing that it puts the tip at risk, or someone else is playing with your toys when you're not around.

What about safe queens that you fondle a bit?araneae wrote:Can't break a tip if you didn't use the knife. Just sayin...
I know, hes sleep walking and then handling the knives.
I would say its a weak point of the PM2s but at the same time if I was to choose a knife to pry ect with, itd be my Endura w a saber grind.
To be fair a few people have broken it cutting I remember these threads before I bought mine.
Never broken a tip and really appreciate thin ones. My Dad has no knife empathy and his Rookie G10 still is in one piece from about 2 years ago.
Everything is "too weak" when you put it through excessive forces. The definition of "excessive force" changes depending on the tool. Given the number of Para2's out there and only a few who have mentioned tip breaking it seems more of a specific example.

I remember a post from a person who makes custom flashlights. He is known for making a 4,000 lumen light that has about a 10 minute runtime and can cook an egg from the heat of the lamp.
He was saying that he charged up the battery on one of his lights, then the next time he went to use it it seemed like the battery was dead. He thought that something was wrong with the battery. After he recharged the battery, he found out from his girlfriend that she and their daughter were looking for something in the garage with the light and didn't tell him that they drained the battery.

My wife uses my 3k lumen single mode light to look for things under the bed. They think we are unsophisticated? :rolleyes:Donut wrote:After he recharged the battery, he found out from his girlfriend that she and their daughter were looking for something in the garage with the light and didn't tell him that they drained the battery.
