Hi. I'm new to knives and just got a Spyderco Vallotton in the mail. It looks perfect, but the action on the blade is a bit off compared to the two Vallottons I've handled in the past. The blade just doesn't come out as smoothly and it takes more force than it should. Any recommendations on how I can fix this? I'd prefer not to send it back for an exchange, but I don't know how/if I can fix it myself.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

Two options....wait for it to break in (my advice) as the pivot will loosen up with use..they ALWAYS do. Or, you could get a torx driver and adjust the pivot screw yourself to your liking.
The benefit of leaving it alone and letting wear loosen the pivot is that once it does break in there likely won't be any hint of side to side blade play. The down side to adjusting it yourself is that the looser you make the pivot, the more chance there is of blade play.
I've owned 3 Para 2's, all of them were absolutely perfect out of the box as far as opening silky smooth and having no play at all. In a months time they all developed side to side play from breaking in the pivot.

Hey there, I had a similar situation when I got my Vallotton. I just gave a few drops of sewing machine oil to the pivot, and played with it for an hour or so until it smoothed out. As Evil D said, it's always best to let it work itself out, rather than dicking around with the pivot. I actually have a few knives I leave beside the remotes for the TV, so I always have something to break in while I watch a movie.

I'm like a child at Christmas at the moment I have a few quality customs around $500 and this vallaton stands next to them and more than holds its own.
In fact if I could get a replica of this but in custom I would imagine maybe $1000 butch vallottons customs look nice but the ones I'm attracted to are 2500-3000 and I see the prototype of this is much smaller, 2 inch blade.
The opening on mine is IMO smooth for day 2 I can open it with index ,and the one next to my thumb with a flick although my fingers measure 1.2" wide not fat but through stone work with a bolster and hammer left me with hands like clubs and muscular fingers.
I added a drop of bicycle oil untill I get some sentry oil and its gliding out is it new or second hand ?
