Wallets?

#1

Post by kbrouwer »

Which wallet do you carry on a daily basis? I have a low end "Wallet Depot" wallet but was looking to "upgrade." As of now, I'm probably going to go for a Hugo Boss offering. I'm looking for leather with minimal card slots (3-4 if possible) because I'm 15 years old, only cards I need to store are a school I.D, membership card for my lake house, library card (just to fill up a spot, I like never go to the library, lol)

I know someone's gonna say Saddleback Leather, I looked at some of his offerings, I want something a little classier looking, something i could have with Catholic school clothes (shirt and tie, khakis, the whole deal)

Less is more and sitting on a wallet often leads to back trouble.

I think Saddleback is definitely classy. Bladeforums has a sub-forum for Saddleback and there's a few threads of just wallets. I got one for Christmas and its been great. It was a little thick when I first got it but now it's gotten worn in some.

I use a nylon billfold but I have one of those woven stainless steel fiber ones somewhere. Have you seen them? There are also these wallets and inserts made of this aluminized material that supposedly blocks scanners that would try to steal your personal information.

I picked up a TGT wallet recently on Kickstarter, it the most minimalistic possible, if fact its a rubber fabric with a small leather pouch, but it takes up 1/3 in your pocket compared to a normal wallet :) It holds 10 cards and a wad of cash just enough for me :)

My fiancee made me a wallet for my bday a couple of years ago using a GI Joe-themed fabric - when I pull the wallet out, it has a prominent Cobra insignia over a mostly light greenish fabric. Nifty, but I think we will probably redesign it to be a bit more resilient/secure soon.

I have two Saddlebacks. One a regular bifold wallet I tend to carry in my briefcase, and a small, flat credit card hold I carry in my left front pants pocket. Very happy with both.

Mine is old enough to vote, and probably old enough to drink. It's a brown leather trifold and the only marking on it is a small cloth tag that says "Made in China". It's been showing some wear on the corners for the past few years but, barring serious mishaps, I figure it's good for at least another five.

I use a Countycomm "LA Wallet". They make them in nylon and leather. About $10 and about 4mm thick :D . Holds your ID, a few cards and some cash.

I can sit on it without back pain.

You should check out the website: Kickstarter.com. It has a lot of wallets by different inventors/small start up's. I carry around a Saddleback bi-fold but was looking for something a little thinner and nicer. I saw the Omega Titanium wallet and decided to back it. That is probably out of your price range but there are a bunch of different minimalist wallets for varying prices.

I carry an old black leather Harley Davidson chain wallet minus the chain that my older brother gave me. They're made so stout that I may never have to replace it.

I usually carry an empty wallet every day :p It's a Nautica I picked up about 10 years ago and it's holding up fine. It's soft leather but a decade of daily carry has it worn in pretty well...

I carry the Timbuk2 Paranoia wallet (sans bicycle chain). Ballistic nylon with an all-around zipper, internals very solid as well. Few card slots and 2 slots for cash/checks, about half as thin as my old trifold. Got it for Christmas, going to last for years.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I don't know, Blake. I like the idea of a thin wallet but thin (smooth) stuff seems to slip out of my pocket. I assume that doesn't (from yours?)

Anyway, I just ordered a Saddleback. I'd just blown out my best belt (gotta get back on that diet ;) ) so I put an Old Bull in the cart too. Doubt I'm gonna blow out that thing!

And, I figured out the shipping thing. I'd added a bottle of their leather conditioner and that switched the shipping to UPS only (at $36!) I knew I'd seen USPS before. Or I thought I had ;) Anyway, removed the conditioner and USPS popped back up. It was still $15 but that's way better. Found the conditioner on Amazon for the same price with free shipping.

Amazon has them. I THINK shipping is less though it still comes direct from Saddleback.
