South Fork on the way! Requesting pictures

#1

Post by Clip »

I was cutting up some fruit tonight with my Elmax Mule and felt the sudden urge to be using a South Fork for the same task. So on a whim, I rushed onto eBay and put one on order. I guess Ankerson's review and the thread here about using them to process game somehow sunk in very slowly until tonight.

Let's see some pictures and hear some thoughts on this one! It looks like Phil Wilson did an excellent job.

Here's one of Ankerson's pictures that made me fall in love (thanks for all the testing!):

I didn't see the Ankerson post but have used the SouthFork on deer, no pix though. Overall I really like it. W would prefer a little less upsweep on the tip, but that is probably only based on what I am used to. It takes a long time to sharpen. It does seem to me when comparing to D2 (my other game knives) the times it takes to sharpen is.. lets just say twice as long. but the time until it needs sharpened again is like 1.5. Definitely not a good choice for people who aren't good at sharpening. It will only cause frustration.... But again a great deal to like about the knife. I bought a back up after my first use.

I remain very pleased with my South Forks.
The tip works well for me when boning out cattle and pigs. It's also helpful if the knife is used for filleting fish.

South Fork taking a break from working it's first feral pig.

Fillets for bait.

Beef for mincing. The South Forks get by far the most hand time. Comparing adds interest.

Good choice Clip.

Aotea, your thread about the bull and the South Forks was one of the most influential in my purchase. I read that when you first posted it and enjoyed every bit.

This means that when SWMBO comes after me you're an accomplice.
