My First Spyderco

#1

Post by WolfyBrandon »

December 26, 2003 was the day I decided to pickup my first serious EDC knife, and that knife has been on me every single time I have left the house since that date. It was nothing special... I just walked up to the knife counter at the sporting goods store and browsed for a while and found the knife that most appealed to me at the time and dropped ~$30 for it. I was fairly happy with it and didn't think much of it until a few years down the road when I came across "TheNutnFancy Project" and started to learn about different blade steels, weight, traction, ergonomics, and knife features. That's when I could start to see the areas my current EDC was lacking. I couldn't really find the knife for me at the time, so I started to make a mental list of all the features I liked and was looking for in a knife to help me find "My" knife. Then in 2011 I was watching Nutn's Shot Show video of the Spyderco booth and for the first time something really caught my eye to where I had to rewind the video a few times. After over a year of research looking into it I found it had absolutely everything I was looking for + 2nd type of cool. Sadly I could not get any "hands-on" with it because the city I live in isn't cool enough to carry Spyderco's. It was also a little out of my price range at the time to be spending on a knife so I've had it on the back burner for a while now. Then recently to my disbelief, I find out that Spyderco has decided to actually discontinue the knife in 2013! I had already made up my mind, and considered it to be a "must-have", so I decided to spring for it now before it was too late. She just arrived in the mail tonight so as of January 24, 2013 I now have my new EDC...

Nice knife! I have the Superhawk (same handle, but hawkbill-shaped blade). It is probably one of my toughest feeling knives. They are built like tanks. I'm glad you managed to find a Superleaf while they are still available. Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your time hanging out here!
