Boye Dent? Yes? No?

#1

Post by cosmo7809 »

After seeing that the new Calypso sprint has no Boye Dent it made me wonder how many others prefer or do not prefer the Boye Dent on their backlocks. I enjoy the Boye Dents on my knives and I like the feel when depressing lock.

Thank you.

I like the feel of the notch when I'm sliding my thumb down the spine trying to locate the lock by touch.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

It is a little bit disappointing that there is no Boye Dent as it's a relatively good extra safety measure. Plus it's easier to lodge your finger into the lock and close the blade.

I have no issue with its function but I find it displeasing aesthetically.

Nope. Don't want it...I think that it is ugly, and I think that the amount of safety that it provides is so negligible as to be non-existent.

I find locks with the Boye dent slightly more comfortable to operate. Without the dent, the sharp corners of the lockbar seem more pronounced to me. But, it's not a huge concern, and either way looks fine to me. I'm happy with or without it.

I like that dent, other straight lock bars feel sharp when depressing them. Not the Boye Dent versions.
Plus there`s a use for it which might not be those knives` purpose: They work great uncapping Coke-/beer-/wine-bottles. Others use their knives` blades to do the same. I do not want an edge to be involved in opening a bottle...
So for me a Delica is a multi-tool just because of that dent.

I like the dent; being able to easily locate the lock disengaging spot solely by feel more than offsets the (small) aesthetic detraction for me.

I like it. I don't feel like it makes the knife uglier. Most of the time, I don't even notice it.

I like it, don't mind it either way. I think they may have left the dent off the new Calypso to keep it more like the original.

I really like the dent as it is way more comfy to operate and a great reference point. I may have kept a couple more backlock Spydies if they had it.

I prefer it. It's the one item I would change on the Chaparral.

I prefer it particularly since I rotate between several different knives with different lock designs. The dent makes it a little easier for me to locate the lock.

All my EDC are midlock and I prefer no Boye dent. I found knives without it more esthetically pleasing for my eye and do not feel that I need it for something including safety. Still love my Calys. :)

I voted yes...more ergonomic vs. solid bar, indexing has been mentioned and that's a benefit, plus I LIKE WAY IT LOOKS

I voted No, because I grew up without them so I really don't see the point. I understand the point, but just have never felt the need for it. I could take it or leave it really. As far as feeling for and locating the lock, I'm going to feel the cutout in the scales for the lock anyway.

I am Switzerland on this...ie, neutral...with, without...whichever.

And since there wasn't a 3rd choice I didn't vote.
