Your worst Christmas song.

#1

Post by tr4022 »

Mine is "Christmas Eve in Washington," which was recorded maybe 20, 25 years ago by a local singer. Tries to sentimentalize one of the least sentimental places on Earth outside of Tajikistan. So deliciously treacly, it makes my skin crawl. My Christmas season just isn't complete until I've heard this gawd-awful monstrosity. I've heard it twice this season. I'm a happy man.

There are a great many that drive me around the bend. And few that I enjoy...I would say that there are maybe 2 or 3 that I like. So the worst...is all the rest.

IMO, Christmas Shoes effectively knocked Jinglebell Rock from it's throne.

They all irritate me. That said, I have found ways to listen to them and enjoy them. There is a band called August Burns Red (Christian metalcore band) who've put out an entire album of Christmas songs.

I always enjoyed the Ramones' "Father Christmas," remember that one? Haven't heard it for a while.

Okay, so it's technically both the best and the worst; all at the same time.

Enjoy!

An adult rated version of Jingle Bells Rock:

I get all warm and fuzzy around Christmas time and will listen to almost anything, but find myself particularly annoyed with Josh Groban's "If you just believe"

Have to say my three favorite Christmas records are those by Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and Diana Krall.

For me it's Christmas in Killarney. I worked for a very Irish bank in the '70s and they played Muzak (anyone remember that?) and every other song during Christmas they played it. Drove me nuts. 40 years later it still makes me cringe. Oops...sorry if I offended any of you Irish guys!

Meh, I'm Irish, and it would drive me nuts, too. Not fond of maudlin, mawkish Irish tunes, I have to confess.

Nat King Cole's version The Christmas Song is like honey pouring in the ears. What a voice! Not sure what the other two are.
