We talk about C41BK Native (Lightweight) - IIRC it was in 2003 (1997+1998 - GIN-1, 2000-2002 - CPM 440V).

S30V Natives are vintage 2003

I don't believe any of the Golden, Colorado USA Spyders got S30V until 2003 to the best of my memory. I'll look up some of my old catalogs this evening and find out.

And there were a few of them that got S30V either in 03 or 04. I didn't get my S30V blue Dodo until 04 that I do remember but it was about March of that year when I got it. I do remember the 03 catalog advertising many of the Golden CO USA models in S30V that year.

I'm still using one of my 440V ( S30V's predecessor) Natives and I do remember getting it in either late 01 or early 02. VG-10 Native models made in Japan were out way before S30V Natives were.

The first Chinook models made with S30V are getting quite collectible as well as the Lil Temperance models with S30V.

I'd agree that S30V would indicate your Native was made in 2003, or later. Are you sure the box is not grey? Can't say I've ever seen a green Spyderco box. If it is the grey box then it may, or may not, have a two letter date code on the label where A = 1, B = 2, etc, first letter being the month, second the year.

DEACON> I had five people look at the box and all all of them said it was a funny shade of GREEN with a spyder web design and the spiderco bug. However there are two letters on the label DK which according to your reply would make it 4/11 which I know for a fact is not the correct date as I purchased four of them years ago sometime close to when the S30V first started being used on the NATIVE. I also called a friend of mine that loves S30V and he purchased two of them at the same time just for that reason. He said he is still using the first one every day and it has taken a beating but still works fine. He looked at both of his boxes and said they are green. Do you have any ideas as to what the DK represents or any other ideas?
Thanks.

Can't say I ever heard anyone call it green before but, no matter.

No idea what the DK means except that it's definitely not a date code, and is one of several pairs of letters that has appeared on the boxes of many different models over the years. Fact that your box does not have a date code would, in my opinion, place it somewhere before February, 2004. At least that's the earliest alpha date coded box in my collection. Any boxes I have that are earlier either have open dates printed on them or are undated.

Thanks.
C41PBK is a Native with plain blade and black FRN; the color of the slide out box is called grey but it's not a 100 % grey, it also looks a bit greenish and depends from the lighting conditions - this is not a point for disputation :D

Peter1960 & Deacon: Thank you both for the information. I noticed in the pictures that the boxes didn't appear to have a spider web design in them. Were they made both ways? As far as the color goes I wasn't trying to start a dispute just wanted to make sure that my description was correct and understood.
Thanks again.

I agree. It's not perfectly monochromatic. :) Still, with the number of fake Spyderco knives out there it's always worth discussing.

No, it's just a question of lighting and angle, the two boxes both have the web on them and, AFAIK, while the placement of the :spyder: logo and the Spyderco name moved around from time to time, all the grey boxes had the black spiderweb on them.
