Hi Iole,
Very nice work on the sword. Is that rose wood on the handle? One of my first wood-working experiences as a youngster was making wooden swords in my dad's shop. (Seems like I recall burning up a lot of his blades and sanding belts. He was not very pleased :o ).

Carina Cirrincione at Raven Studios used Hickory, Hilt - sandwiched between Jatoba, from her site: "Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) - Russet to reddish brown with an interlocking straight grain. Very hard, heavy, and tough. Very similar in structure to Purple Heart. Typically used for flooring, railroad cross ties, gear cogs, and other specialty items."

The Jatoba is indeed beautiful wood. I just picked up a few pieces of Paduak, Zebrawood, and Rosewood last evening at a local outdoor convention. The Zebrawood is going to be used on a knife project that I'm currently working on. :) I would eventually like to get my hands on some Snakewood, but it seems to be fairly costly.

Yes that is a Dadao. It is one of Little Raven's patterns. I was surprised in finding it on their web site and wanted to feel how it moves in my hands compared to my bokkens.Wildernest Survivor wrote:That is a gorgeous sword. It looks like a Chinese Dadao - am I right - or where you trying to make a different historical design?
