LOST/POSSIBLY STOLEN - Spydero Gunting Custom Rescue (006 on tang)

#1

Post by Waffle »

Just in case anyone comes across it....

I sold it on ebay; been in need of money. Buyer claims he never received it. I have a customs number but USPS says they can't help because it's a "courtesy" when they scan the barcode. Needless to say, ebay found in favor of the buyer. As a result, I'm out the knife and the money.

I know it's a long shot, as the item went to Russia. If anyone happens to see it pop up somewhere please let me know.

I've learned my lesson, ebay/paypal is evil. Thanks guys.

Sorry you lost your knife. But, while eBay may be evil and PayPal may be evil, shipping anything of real value to a stranger without insurance for full value and proof of delivery is downright foolish.

The intent of this post is to ask guys to keep an eye out for it, if it happens to resurface at some point... NOT to discuss my mistake. Now that we've established I'm foolish, we need not discuss it any further. Thank you Deacon, you are very wise.

I'll keep an eye out for a 006 Gunting..
I've been in the market for a Gunting anyways, so if I see yours pop up, I'll send you a PM. Make sure you have email notification on for received PMs if you don't check the forums often.

Wow man you sent a knife without insurance!??!?!? WTF!!! LOL just kidding man..gotta make a joke out of it just to keep yourself sane. There's always the chance that the buyer is just plain old lying and did receive the knife and stiffed you for the money. This is why i just don't sell outside the country. It's just too risky for my tastes. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it, but if it's over there then it'll probably just be sold locally and you'll never see it pop up on a public sales site again.

That sucks. Ebay always sides with the buyer, its BS! I have had a similar situation where I was out the item and cash, luckily it wasnt that valuable. I feel for your loss. As evil D said, doint business internationally through ebay is SKETCHY at best.

Please be aware that the Gunting that waffle is referring to appears to be the rescue version which I think has orange handles and is even more rare than the regular Gunting.

I will keep an eye out too, waffle. Sorry it got lost.

Well that's not really fair, I'm sure you have dodgy people in the states too? It might be harder to get the item/money back but a bad deal is a bad deal no matter where you live, we aren't all bad.... ;)

This is what happen to a Marine station with me.

I told him to be aware ( This was when Ebay just took over PayPal).

He sent the stuff and buyer said he never got it and he was out of computer and money.

Paypal was good before Ebay take over.

But the Postal service of these United States ain't so pure.

I send Mosier two of my prototypes, one made by Black Cloud Knives (Ernest Mayer) and the other by him.

I sent partial payment with knives and I recieved a letter stating the package was open and they returned my Money Order but no knives. I sent the letter with info and pics as per their instructions and nothing.

Mail through the same post office as the clerks new me for late night mailing.

3 yrs of trying the facility(where you send for your claim) and it closed down.

This happen 2 weeks after I sent them back the info.

I had to called to find out they been closed for over 2yrs at the time.

Tried the new facility by mail and still nothing.

Someone at postal took them, My name is on those knives.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your losses guys. I hope you'll get them back eventually.
Waffle, I wanted to make the same observation as Ceya. It is possible that the buyer tells the truth - he didn't get the goods because they were stolen during transit. It happened to me a few years ago with a Spyderco Military, the package was lost somewhere on the road :(

BIG and SURPRISING news. After TWO MONTHS, the knife showed up at my doorstep. Not sure why or how, but it made it back. Maybe it's a sign that I should keep it!?!?

I'd keep it! Very rare to get a lost item back, especially when it was sent overseas.

That's what I'm thinkin'. I sold it once before and it made it's way back to me. That makes twice. I think it's a sign.

Wow, amazing. The knife is still in the same condition when you sent it out? I'd keep it, it's a sign.

Two options:
1. You got the buyer's address wrong -> returned shipping. US->RU->US might take more than 2 months (if shipping by sea).
2. The buyer got the knife AFTER they got their money back from Paypal. And thought it would be fair to return the knife (as they had not paid for it).

#1 sounds more likely.

Hmmmm. I didn't know that Spyderco made a Boomerang Gunting... :p (Just kidding. Happy to hear that your knife made it back to you no worse for the wear). :)
