Samo! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="http://community.the-underdogs.org/smil ... .gif"><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Watches, knives, and personal illuminating devices and the adventurer's life! How many timepieces is this now?? .....and which one keeps saying it's time to buy a new watch when you look at it? I would like to get a lady's model for Mrs Java and modify it to substitute Spydie for watch!!

Good Day oh Great Java of Alofi! A watch for Mrs Java sounds great! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Personally, I think the Casio G-Shock model DW-5600 and DW-5000 are AWESOME, simple and unpretentious.. They are great in price and if you want to check 'em all out.. surf into www.gshock.co.jp the site's in Japanese and there are some really interesting knives on this site.. Noteable ones are the 20th-Anniversay Special Models which are limited in production.. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

About three summers ago I saw a Casio G-Shock with a display of orange numbers against a black background at a "tourist" shop. I thought I could purchase it cheaper back home when I returned from my trip (at the time I thought it was a new model for the year).

I was saddened to learn that that model is very hard (in fact, so far impossible) to find in stores and on the internet. The following year I returned to the same tourist shop hoping that they still had the watches for sale; however, none of the sales staff remember seeing such a style. I was told that it could have been an international version that was a one time offering.

Has anyone else seen this G-Shock? Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks.

Oh yeah, just to keep this a legitimate thread on a knife forum: It would look nice when paired with my Military. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I have the DW-5000-1JF from a couple of years ago. Same dial as the original DW-5000 of 1983. Very hefty piece.

Hi Toothed - do you know the model number of the G-Shock? There's a good on-line G-Shock repository at www.gshock.co.jp but the language is in Japanese.. Also some G-Shock clubs in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong which might be able to offer some help.. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hello Connor! Welcome aboard the Spyderco Forums.. The Casio G-Shock Model DW-5600E retails at RM299 = €67.12, while limited-run models DW-5000ML and DW-5000SP retails at €114.60... That's the pricing over here.. Are they expensive in Europe? I can get at least 20% off the retail price on certain models.. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Q for all you G-Shock aficionados:exactly how tough are these things? I gave up wearing watches on my bikes(Harleys) because the vibes trash them. I wear carbiner-style watches unless I'm dressing up. Would a G-Shock handle vibration well? I'm talking about a couple hours straight of being shook up.

G-Shocks are great rough use timepieces! I've been using them for years and I'm not gentle on most things. Not going to drop names, but at a SHOT Show a few years back, I was talking with a couple very well-known an respected adventurer/writer/knife designer/soldier types, when one of them said "Betcha we're all wearing the same watch", we were - all G-shocks.

Dynarider - Dude, you'll be surprised how the Casios can hold out to abuse and shock!

Hi Uncle Mike! Great to have you onboard this discussion! Well, dug up my archives and found a Casio G-book and here's some food for thought.. The first G-Shock was introduced 20 years ago. It was one of the ugliest and toughest wristwatch ever to be made. Dubbed as model DW-5000C, the first model has an underwater depth rating of 200 meters.. This was followed by the second generation WW-5100C which can withstand extreme temperatures down to -30C.. During the first Gulf War, the US Navy Seals chose model DW-5600C as their choice wristwatch.. These watches are tough because they are fitted with rubber dampers.. You can drop 'em, toss 'em, dunk 'em, turn 'em, twist 'em and it'll just keep on beeping.. <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hey samo,

thanks for the information. Unfortunately I can't find the prices for the DW-5600/5000 in any german watch discounter online shop .. maybe the model is too old/new or whatever. :-/

I found some really interesting Casio "outdoor" watches, though .. maybe you can tell me the prices of those in Malaysia? ;-)

CASIO Pro Trek 'Kula Kangri' PRG-40-3VER €169,-

CASIO Pro Trek 'Mauna Loa' PRG-40B-2VER €189,-

CASIO Pro Trek 'Nanga Parbat' PRG-40T-7VER €219,-

(pictures: http://www.casio-europe.com/de/watch/pr ... g-40-3ver/ )

Those are *really* cool watches, I would love to have one of those .. if they were a bit cheaper. :-/

Regards,

Connor

This article offers a relatively full treatment of the classic square G-Shocks. It doesn't include anything released by Casio in the last 6 months.

Thanks for the lead Connor! I guess that watches are cheaper here in Malaysia cos they are Duty-Free! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I for one, love the squarish G-Shocks! The limited production DW-5000SP is a winner! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> also try check out www.gshock.com its a cool site with plenty of resources and its in English! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hi disoder! Casio did produce some awesome G-Shock models for surfers.. There's a complete line-up of these digital display watches on www.gshock.com they are really awesome! I have one particular model which is made for anglers that displays moon phase and tidal flow.. Totally awesome! Have to mothball the watch cos the casing had fallen apart.. Well, least to say, the back panel is made of titanium.. it totally ROCKS! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Oooops! Did you say 'anemometer'? Ummmm... I guess not... It'll be interesting to see of Casio can integrate such a tool on their G-shocks.. The only 'surfer-friendly' watches are those with tidal-graphs.. Sorry dude! I musta taken the wrong que! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
