Fighting infection: Any suggestions?

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

I just got out of an extended stay at the hospital for a massive infection I have in my left ankle. They ran enough anti-biotics through me to sterilze an entire herd of cattle. I'm feeling like I'm running at 40% at best.

Not looking for sympathy at all and am glad to be alive but I am looking for some knowledge if anyone has any to share for alternative remedies. I'm just about to completely give up on the western medical community and start trying out some herbal and/or homeopathic remedies. I've already been told about the medicinal wonders of "oil of oregano", goldenseal, and echanacea. I've used some of these herbals in the past with some success.

They still don't have the infection 1000% under control yet but it is slowly going away. But I'm open to any suggestions of any natural, herbal, homeopathic remedies or maybe something that grandma used to use years ago than any of you are aware of.

We have a huge membership of brothers and sisters from all over the globe and I'm hoping that maybe some of you all on the other side of the globe might know of something to try.

This infection has driven me to a level of depression I've never experienced so any suggestions will be taken seriously. Also any topical ointments that might give relief would be welcome as well. Glad to be back home and glad to be back at Spyderville. I had been hearing of flesh-eating bacteria in various countries and I hope I can dodge that one.

I realize this is for educational purposes only and I hold no one liable. But I do want to try some alternative treatments. I'm already scanning my survival magazines and other sources but I'm hoping you all might have some input.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. JD

Not good JD, not good at all. Lets see if this is any good to you.
Do you have any Guava trees near you ?
If so pick an odd number of the mature dark leaves. I say odd number because this is the superstition that goes along with this treatment as it was told to me years ago. Who am I to question or mess with something that works.
Take these leaves, 7, 11 or 17 & put in a bowl & pour boiling water over them, fill the bowl. Let the leaves steep as you would a pot of tea & when the leaves & water come down to a temperature that you can bear on your skin start to wash & clean the wound with the leaves. ( I take it that you have an open wound ? ) Repeat &repeat as needed.
You may get a bucket & put a heap of leaves in it & enough water to imerse the ankle & let it soak.

hope you heal up JD... my brother just got out of a 3 day stay at the hospital after sticking his thumb with a fish bone. He got fish poisoning and some pretty heavy duty IV antibiotics.

First, if your medical doctor sill has you on any antibiotics or other drugs you need to let him know you are planning to take anything. Some non traditional medicines or herb remedies can interfere with medications. Not finishing a complete round of antibiotics helps them to become drug resistant.

You really need to let to let your physician know how you feel, your mental state can definitely have a negative impact on healing.

Lastly, there are some non traditional medicines that have proven effective, at the same time there is also a lot of hocus pocus associated with them as well. For example, the poaching of rhinos because they think the ground up horn works better than patent medicine like Viagra.

We here all wish you well, but for the most part have no medical degrees. :)

Prayers for your wellness and guidance for your doctors.

Hey Joe,

It's been a while buddy. I still remember that Mini-Grip you sent me to try out years back. I have missed chatting with you. Please, do me a favor, don't do something drastic. I just lost a friend that I've known since high school due to suicide. I am not saying you are going to, I'm just saying please talk to someone you love or know (me included). I how it is to be depressed and it's not fun. I don't need to lose another friend to suicide.

I don't have any good suggestions for infection. Is it an open wound or something else?

I don't know of any miracle drugs JD, maybe hit google and see what stuff comes up.
I am sorry to hear about your infection and hospital stay. Did you cut your ankle or
did it just start to swell up.
Did you have any Spydies to flickaround when you were in stir. Maybe a Spyderhawk
or Massad Ayoob.
Hopefully this isn't a continuing issue and you can get it solved asap. Take care.

Hi Joe,sorry to hear you have an infection,it`s good to know it`s not the flesh eating variety, but I think if you start using the oil of oregano, someone might mistake you for a salad  ,just trying to cheer you up :) . I think your really doing the best that you can do to take care of this, just keep it real clean and keep changing the dressings on it.Keep your spirits up thats the best medicine. Keep us updated brother,I hope you get well soon.

Hey Brother thanks for the great feedback. And you are 100% right.>> I will be finishing my final round of antibiotics in a couple of days and I do plan to clean out my system before doing anything else at all. Just to let all of you know that I'm not going to do anything stupid. This came awful close to being a major disaster.

But I do have faith in the herbal and natural remedies that GOD himself made for our benefit and have had good success with a few of them in the past. The P 73 Formula of Oil Of Oregano has really done minor miracles for me with a lot of acute sicknesses like sore throats, flu, colds and other viruses. I have also used goldenseal and other medicinal herbs with some success.

But I also believe that doctors and hospitals have their place too.

I do appreciate all the great stuff you guys and gals have sent me and I will be back 100% soon and I won't quit until I get there.

If it were me, I would try fruit juice. Orange or Cranberry or Grape juice will typically cleanse some bad stuff right out of me.

My method is usually testing a bunch of stuff out until you figure out which one works the best. I believe that not everyone is the same and what might work for me might not work for you.

Doc has also helped me in the past, he knows some crazy stuff.

Maybe a Spyderco knife or two will be a good antidote. :D

One of the nurses I had at the hospital who was pretty sharp and was a big help in many concerns told me that any herbal remedies I did to be careful and check it out ( information wise) first. He also told me that anything that would increase circulation would be a huge benefit. I've been told that anything in the pepper family and particularly cayenne was very helpful for circulation.

If any of you have any herbs you all could recommend for circulatory help I would be very grateful to know about them. I'm even checking out "chealation therapy" that a couple of DO Doctors here in Kansas City do for their patients.

I first thought this wound to be a Brown Recluse Spider bite ( a very bad spider here in the USA that has a necrotic venom that has caused many people many serious problems). Even the doctors aren't totally sure at to what caused this problem in the first place.

But the more I think about it the "Circulation" improvment makes sense from many aspects

My son had a MERSA infection last year. He got antibiotics and some other stuff. They now have antibiotic creams with silver solution in them directed at this infection. You really have to be careful with it. It does take a toll. My son is young and strong and came out ok.

My father had MERSA for the last couple of years of his life. It got into his bones and he went out pretty badly. That and some other things had him broken mentally, to the point he denied his faith and was wishing for death. He got his wish but it was not a good way to go.

I'd stick with conventional treatments if any infection remains and don't let up at all. That's one thing that can cost you. Do whatever you have to but do it smart and take the meds given, and keep the communication going with the doctors.

Good luck J.D.

Ugh, Man, so sorry to hear this. Hope you're better--physically and mentally--very soon. No magical remedies from me, either, but want to express my sympathies and say I'm glad you're finishing up your antibiotics before starting any homeopathic remedies. Best of luck, J.D.
