Sheath for Endura 4

#1

Post by vince »

Hi,

I'm a total newbie here, and I just bought a Spyderco Endura 4. It's my first Spyderco, but not the last. This knife is beautiful, but I have just one problem : what about a sheath ? I'm afraid about the fact that the knife could open itself in my backpack, and then be dangerous ; what about that ?

I opened a new thread because I found nothing about sheath on the forum ; I hope that I did not make a double thread.

Thanks !

Clip the Knife to the outside of your backpack. It's more accessible. Or, better yet to your belt or in your pocket. The clips on quality knives like the Endura last for years w/o bending or warping. And to unintended opening, A is right, it would take very specific force to open the blade. I've carried a clipit since I was 16 on my belt and I've never had a problem. btw I'm 35. Oh and congratulations on your new addiction. :D

Thank you very much for you answers. It's quite an addiction, indeed. :) I knew about kydex neck sheath, and the leather sheath is nice too. In fact, I think that the Endura would be absolutely perfect if there was a security, a system to make the blade locked in closed position. I'm happy to know that you never had problem with an unintentional opening of the blade, but I can't help it thinking that it could happen. And Spyderco blades are razors, aren't they ? :)

And by the way, are they any Spyderco knife with such device, allowing the blade to be locked in closed position ?

Thanks again !

As far as I know the only ones with a lock-out are the Lionspy's (I don't own that one but recall such).

Lockbacks have a very secure self-close among folders. The only ones I've seen a bit scary are the heavier bladed ones like the Chinook 2. Still, with a little pivot-tightening you can cure that completely.

Honestly I would just get a rubberband if planning on throwing it in a pack. That or find a pack with a place you could clip it to similar to a pocket. That way it's not free-bagging.

I saw that the Spyderco Citadel for example, which is automatic, has a security button that locks the blade in closed position. That's perfect ! I wonder if there are some Spyderco non-automatic knives with a security button...
