Black blades are coming!!

#1

Post by swede »

I just got a collector's letter from Joan at Spyderco. Looks like both the Endura and Delica will be offered in PE and CE with black blades (the letter indicates "limited quantities". I remember there was discussion of this topic not too long ago. Thought you all might be interested.

My experience with variations offered on the collector knives is that they ship about 1-2 months after notification. Again, though, I think the quantities on these might be quite small.

Please please make a black bladed Gunting. That huge shiny ramp just draws too much attention to it when its on a belt.

Zardoz, I too have asked for a blackened Gunting. It was not feasible with CPM440V steel, since the high temperatures needed to cure the coatings would mess up the heat treat of the steel. Does anyone know if S30V can be blackened feasibly?

Would love a black bladed Endura. That one is on my list of next spydies to get. If no black blade then regular will do.

dialex: Some coatings hold up pretty well. I've got a Benchmade 830(w/Spydie hole :-)) w/black(BT2) coating that I carried for years. It was doing fine 'till the other year when I moved and was chopping up boxes. Hit a couple staples and put a couple scratches in the finish. That was the only damage I ever did to the finish.

Anyone know what kind of coating the Spydies will have?
