Very nice we have a 05 2500, its my 2nd one and they get abused and stand up well. We just bought a new Tundra that I am pretty excitied about but I held on to the Chev.

I had a 2008 Chev 2500, a 2010 Dodge 1500 and now have a 2012 F250. I guess I like new trucks. Every time I get about 40,000 miles I get the urge to have a new one. It would save me a lot of money to keep one for 150,000 miles but I just don't seem to be smart enough. There is nothing like the feeling that comes with a new truck.

There are a few things that send me on the road for a new vehicle and the tranny is one of them :) . I think you did the right thing. It's quite possible that rattling noise was some slop with the timing chain. If so you really don't want to go down that road. Frankly 145,000 is getting up there and while many people have those stories of the 300k+ mile Ford truck many others have the stories of trucks that didn't quite get there.

Congrats on the GMC! More of a blue oval guy myself but I can't knock that truck one bit. It's a serious machine. :)

2000 F150, here, 340,000 miles.
Still runs great, but I'm starting to wonder about the timing chain, water pump, and O2 sensors...

Thank you, gentlemen, for the kind thoughts.

I’ve had the new GMC for six days now, and I've logged about 500 miles driving to and from work. At this point, I think it’s safe to say…

I REALLY LOVE THIS TRUCK!!

For one, it rides a lot more smoothly than my F-250 did—almost like a SUV. (In all fairness, however, I am told that Ford trucks generally feature heavier-duty suspensions when compared to most GM trucks. Since I intend to use this truck as a driver and not a hauler, I think I can live with the “lighter” suspension :) ). I also love how quiet the cabin is during highway travel. (Because of this, I no longer have to shout back and forth at my wife when traveling at 65 mph or more). The economy appears to be decent so far, about 17.3 mpg on average. At this rate, I believe I’ll only have to fill the tank once per week vs. twice a week on the F-250. Other enjoyable features include the Bluetooth connectivity with my cell phone (although I’m sure it looks like I’m really just babbling to myself to the casual observer). I also like the Sirius/XM radio, the extra room afforded by the crew cab, and the comfy seats. I would really love to take this thing on a road trip! Maybe I could talk my wife into a little weekend trip to Golden, CO. :D

The only “bummer” I’ve run into was with the dealer-installed mud flap. I was driving to work earlier this week when I noticed a strange metallic rattling noise coming from the driver’s front side. When I got to work, I inspected the left front wheel, but could not visibly detect any issues. After I got home from work that night, I crawled under the truck and—lo and behold—there was a single loose bolt dangling from the bottom of the mud flap. Long story short, the bolt had been cross-threaded into the keeper nut in the frame and was consequently stripped. I was not very amused. I called our GMC dealer and he was very apologetic. He insisted we bring the truck in at our earliest convenience and reassured me that they would certainly make things right. So, no harm done, but I will hopefully be able to take it in early next week.

Take care guys,

Michael

P.S. Blerv, my grandfather has always been a huge fan of Ford too. I'm sure he'll give me a bit of good-natured grief when he sees this thing. ;)
