Elsa my pocket lionness - A Lionspy as an EDC...
Hi,
here is the link to my last blog review.
My Lionspy is really the thickest Spydie folder I have ever own.
I remember my small Temperance wich used to be stout but here, with the Lionspy, I got a very new animal to test...

Awesome work Nemo and holy smokes, now I really want one. The cost of the
Lionspy immediately put it on a list of ones that I want but would never get.
The comparison pictures that you had are amazing. The Mille and GB are two
of my favorites and the Lion just roars out loud in shear bulk and power.
The bad thing is that I am anxiously awaiting the Tuff and Szabo which are
normally outside of what I prefer to spend on a knife, and now you hit me with
new thoughts of the Lionspy.
Thanks a heck of a lot. :)

I love the GB & the Millie too, but I don't know if I could edc the lionspy. We are going to need a 2 week update on this one. I just pulled the trigger on a zt 561 so if anyone can compare the two I'd listen.

Nice review and pics!
I'm still deciding how much I like the LionSpy. I've had one for a few weeks, and I like it. It's beautiful to look at and hold. But, there are a couple things that might cause it to never end up in the carry rotation. The blade shape is not my favorite. It has way too much belly for the types of tasks I do. It's a bit difficult to open letters with this blade. The other thing is the pocket clip. It looks like it would be awesome, but in reality, the end curves up a little too high for my liking, and the tip is quite sharp, and can get in the way and easily catch fabrics, and scratch things. It's also a little hard to remove from the pocket being so low riding. When I have carried it, I've found removing it from the pocket consistently annoying (compared to my usual Para2).
I like just about everything else though. It's not nearly as chunky or bulky as I expected, but seems rock solid.

Here is the following tests with Elsa ! ;-)

I'm agree that the short clip is not made for fast recovery like on a Millie ou a GB. But it's one of the lowest profile clip I know.
The best way to take the knife out of the pocket is by pulling up gently the jaw of the clip.

This pretty much sums it up for me as well. I LOVE the design of the knife and the way it feels in hand as well as that big, gorgeous chunk of Elmax, but some of the little things may just end up being deal breakers for me in the long run. As far as an EDC go anyway. I find the ZT 0301 fills the role of big, hard-use, badazz folder a bit better than the Lionspy, but the Lionspy is going nowhere any time soon. It's still fun to carry and use and simply a beautiful and unique knife!gbelleh wrote:It has way too much belly for the types of tasks I do.

Thanks for the great review and gorgeous pics Nemo!!
I prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

Jack, you saw the picture in the thread where the guy disassembled his Lionspy.jackknifeh wrote:I read about the roto lock a while back and remember being amazed but now I can't remember where I read it. Can anyone help me? I read it on the Spyderco site but I now remember seeing a picture also. Anyone know where I might have seen a picture?
