Mr Blonde, I hope that Spyderco truly appreciates your contribution towards the knife Knut epidemic. After reading your Amsterdam report, I was also hooked on the Tuff, Southard and Techno. Thanks again for the effort. I am not doin the fan boy thing. Just saying what's on my mind.Mr Blonde wrote:Unless the final production model somehow disappoints the ELU, it's definitely going to be the Southard. The stats on the prototype pics/video are off the charts. Online at least, the Southard already is the next "it" knife.
:spyder: Centofante3 (C66PBK3), ParaMilitary2 (C81GPCMO), Endura4 (C10P), GrassHopper (C138P), Military (C36GPCMO), Perrin PPT (C135GP), Squeak (C154PBK), Dragonfly 2 Salt (C28PYL2), Military M390 CF (C36CFM390P), R (C67GF), ParaMilitary2 CTS-XHP (C81GPOR2), Tuff (C151GTIP), Ladybug & Perrin Street Bowie (FB04PBB)being the newest.
For me none of the 4 mentioned in the poll. I thing the next big thing is Southard flipper!! I would put the Techno on second and the Caly 3 damascus on third
Current EDC: Techno, Squeak, Southard Flipper, Caly 3.5

I voted Chaparral. The new Stealth Chaparral due to be released I think in July or afterwards. I love my CF Chaparral and the way it fits in my hand. For me, it is a great EDC size, shape, blade, etc. The new one will have ti scales and CPM-XHP blade steel. Really looking forward to it. The only thing I wonder about is the titanium handle and what kind of grip it will have. I don't care for the grip of SS and the bolsters on my Sage4 seem slick. However, a small knife with the choil and ergos of the Chaparral I think I will get a good grip.

Agree about the southfork for a fixed blade, but I think the Tuff and Southard are both up there for folders. All 4 on your poll have good buzz, but I don't know if they will generate as much demand. I guess the Chaparral has a good shot over the others, but that's just a guess.

I do agree that the southard will be an it knife. The first of stuff usually is and spyderco finally doing a flipper will be an it for collecting.
I however find the tuff to be the it knife for me. I edced a kuhkri for a very long time. I finally retired it as I just found the handle to have little girth and the blade was not large enough for some tasks I wanted to do givin the blades angle. The tuff answeres all these needs of mine plus it has a no nonsense steel that will take a beating. Beafed up pivot and I know this is purely speculative at this point but either the added blade length is playing tricks on my eyes but I think the blade angle is less then its smaller brother. This would be a good thing in my book.

No Tuff, no vote,
It doesn't really matter to me though, I like them all.

My guess:
1. Southard
2. Tuff
3. Szabo/Ulize
4. Techno/Chaparal
The fact that the Southard is the first flipper design for Spyderco, I think it will be a big hit with collectors and buyers alike. The Techno is very cool but I see the others being more 'collectible', same with the Chaparal since it is a version of a production knife already available unlike the others. The Tuff, Szabo, Ulize seem to be quite big knives though, which might not be everyones bag.
