Yeah, I hear yah! I would imagine they can break off pretty easily when dropped.Evil D wrote:It's really not about prying. Most of the broken tips i've read about are from accidental droppings where the tip breaks on impact.
Delica, what's your preferred grind?
Nice collection of FFG Delica's :cool:sir_mike wrote:If I were afraid of breaking the tip off while doing something like prying, then I would go with a Saber grind but seeing I dont use a Delica for prying, I will stay with the FFG models. Unfortuneately, I really like the PM2's better so these are just sitting in a drawer awaiting new owners! :)
I really want to get the orange FFG and frankenstein it with my all black CE Delica. A Orange handled, black steel Delica, sweet it would be! And the other side, a Black FFG Delica would be great as well.
I also don't use my Delica as much now that I have a PM2, still play with it, just not as much.

I dont normally get to use a knife much anyway because I work out of my house so I am here all day, every day! I do put one in my pocket when I leave the house though! I just cant be without my PM2 and because I like them alot, I have about 6-7 one them now! Almost as many PM2's as Delica's! :D
Looks nice, it's almost like you're trying to sell one to me!sir_mike wrote:If I were afraid of breaking the tip off while doing something like prying, then I would go with a Saber grind but seeing I dont use a Delica for prying, I will stay with the FFG models. I have two FFG Delicas, two saber ground Enduras and two saber ground Salts (a Pacific and a Spyderwawk). In general, I like the FFG. The only downside to it is it SEEMS a bit delicate, but in real life this isn't a big concern. I've never chipped mine and I've seen examples on Youtube that convince me the knife can slice and cut very hard without failing. You shouldn't chop or baton with it, but you already know that.
The saber ground is nice for a spyderedge or combo edge option. However, saber ground is at a disadvantage for food prep. When I slice apples for my kids with the saber ground, the saber ground blade tends to split the apples rather than slice. FFG just slices. And I think saber ground is a little heavier too.

hey guys,
i still carry my saber ground delica as a beater/ loaner.
that way if it gets abused and used hard, it can take it and it's no big deal.
mine has been sharpened a lot, so it's fairly thick behind the edge, and the hump at the end of the blade is vitually gone, but it still cuts quite well.
the only ffg delica i have is the fg g10 version, and it is a great slicer.
later,
don

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it is wrong.
I'm not sure, but my understanding was that the FFG to the ZDP Delica was a running change, and any remaining Sabre ground Delicas are "old stock"?Clip wrote:Hey guys, looking to add a ZDP Delica to my little collection. I've found two, the SC11PGRE (sabre grind, I think) and the C11PGRE (FFG).
I think the "S" at the front of that model # was added by the seller to denote "Spyderco", not "Sabre"...
Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
I'm no SKU # pro but that sounds right. It was a rolling change as you mentioned.mattman wrote:I'm not sure, but my understanding was that the FFG to the ZDP Delica was a running change, and any remaining Sabre ground Delicas are "old stock"?

Anyone buying on code alone should confirm with the seller if a pic isn't shown.

I have both, FFG and Saber. What I noticed is that on the full flat ground blade the spine curves more towards the tip. I like the straighter design of the saber ground blade and I do prefer it when skinning or cutting some softer stuff like meat as the sleek sides of the flat ground one tend to stick to fat, skin or meat. An other thing is blade weight: The saber ground flicks open at lightspeed whereas the flat ground sometimes needs a second wrist move to lock up.
