Those classy pocket clips have returned!

#1

Post by Jeff/1911 »

Folks,

I just received my new S30V Native in PE (my new work knife) and a short while back my "old style" PE Chinook. Both of these arrived with the "blued"' or anodized finish on the pocket clip. I can't begin to describe my joy at seeing this! Sal, you have been listening, haven't you?

The great knives that I've seen come out over the past little while (Endura, Delica and so forth...) with what appear to be "painted" pocket clips are a real source of aggravation once they (the pocket clips inevitavely) get scratched up and quite "cheap" looking as a result.

So, I am most grateful to Spyderco for their attentiveness regarding our concerns about this clip thing...You are even "cooler" than I thought you were!"

Sincerely, Jeff/1911.

shoot.

Michigan school year is just about over now and I'm working on building this knife thing back up. I already have a Native on it's way to me now (ordered it yesterday), but it's an old style one I think...

midget,

The Native I just got is still the "old style", but with the newer blade steel. Yours may well have a "pretty clip" too.

I like the blued clips. They don't seem to scratch like the painted ones and if anything, get more shiny with wear. I use this trick with the painted clips of users that I don't want to get scratched up: Apply a strip of 3M clear packing tape to the clip. It is ugly but protects the clip and can be removed easily with a hair dryer.

I didn't know you could "blue" stainless steel? These sound great. Are they available as an accessory?

You can blue SS but not as well as carbon steel, the blueing is really a from of rust.

I don't know if it's actually a "blued" finish...it could be anodizing. Anyway, it sure is attractive.

umm...these were blued from the factory right? so do all 2003 models from Spyderco come with these new clips or are they only found on certain models such as the Native and Chinook?

Another thought:
The only knives that I own with blued clips are a couple of Micarta Dyad Jr.s. The blued clips are nice but I would personally like to see all clips be polished SS.

Call me crazy, but IMO the "classiest" clips Spyderco ever had were the black clips with the gold "bug" on them. Especially on their micarta models, they were nice.

Anyone know where I can get a few of those?

Back to the subject, when I have a clip get scratched up a bit, I sand it and finish with green scotchbrite pad. It leaves a nice satin-type finish. It's not flashy, not ugly, just nice.

The gold bug clips rock. I actually put a touch of clear nail polish on my Calypso Jr's so it wouldn't wear off.
