Fake Spin Pics.............

#1

Post by pablo7 »

 I bought this from a seller on one of the major forums needless to say after I recieved it I realized it was fake...and got a refund. Some of the giveaways for me where, no sticker on the box even though the seller said it came with the correct box, it came in a stiffer kind of plastic bag and bubble wrap? Spyderco plastic bags are softer with no yellowish tint, the pivot smelled like 3in1 oil, the shade of grey on the box was off and the font on the "fair warranty" statement was different from the grey box that came with my S90v Mili. The actual knife giveaways, the blade was not sharp even though it was LNIB cond., the blade itself had all kinds of tooling/hairline marks and the VG-10/SEKI-CITY markings just didn't look compared to other vg/seki markings, also the etching was not up to the quality on my etched dragonfly it was not sharp around the edges and was shiny in the raised and sunken in protions of it instead of matte and almost beadblasted in the sunken portions, the line visible on the real Spin detent ball on the lock bar was also missing . And lastly the screws where hex not torx which I believe are standard. Here's the pics I took before sending it back....sucks I was realy looking forward to this one.

Good eye.The screws are indeed torx and the entire handle is satin finished. Also the blade in your pics looks stonewashed when it should be satin and the blade marking on yours look eched and should be stamped.

We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

I have seen them on Ebay and found the best tell for these fakes is the clip screws. If you compare Rycen's second picture to pablo7's first picture and note the gap between the screw heads. The real deal the clip screw heads are really close together, on the fake they have a bigger gap.

Boy, the tooling on that fake looks pretty low quality as well. Good eye, Pablo - and I'm glad you got your money back...
