so i returned my para2...
so i returned my para2...
i got the knife, was enamored with the pleasure of holding it and playing with it, but just couldn't find enough justification to keep it. (i know some people collect any nice knife they get a hold of, but i am trying to simplify a bit, and knives that are redundant or don't fill a specific niche, i try not to hold on to.)
basically, i love my delica 4. and i love my aqua salt. and i couldn't find a situation where i needed something in between in terms of size... the para2 always felt big to whip out and use in public or at work, and in those situations i preferred the delica.
on the other hand, if i was out hiking, or trying to make fire, or working outside, or even if i was walking the dogs at night and wanted a little something extra for last ditch self-defense-security-blanket-purposes, i grabbed the bigger fixed blade.
i couldn't really find a role for a folding knife if that size in my daily life.
anyone else have that feeling about it?
anyway, the result of this was, i felt that i had the right to buy another knife and see how that worked out : ) i settled on the native 5.... i realized that in the past, i had a totally skewed impression of the size of the native series, and thought it was a large knife. after seeing a certain picture, i realized it was actually approximately delica-sized, and a finger choil, and G-10, and a neat blade shape, and that nifty-sounding bushing system.... so it sounds like it would fulfill alot of things i am looking for, and plus be appropriate sized for me to use on a real EDC basis.
so i ordered it, and it should arrive friday : )

The native 5 looks nice but I couldnt get used to useing a lock back after useing frame locks so much, id be spastic with it, I recently got my first para2 this past monday, I returned a poorly made none spyderco knife named "albatros", i plan to carry the para2 daily, i love its size, ergos and how sharp it came. Hope it makes it to you friday.

well, if the native is perfect, it'll replace the delica as EDC.gbelleh wrote:But... how will the Native be different enough from the Delica to justify?
and then the orange delica might be reserved for backup hunting/camping knife, due to bright color and visibility etc. and sure, i could've used the para2 for that... but again, as a backup blade, it seemed very big.

I guess I'm a bit on the opposite side of the spectrum as you, I prefer 3.5-4" blades, I really like the Para 2, and its just big enough to be a great edc blade, though I'll often carry a ZT 200, Military, AFCK, Manix 2 XL, etc, I don't really like the Native due to it being too small, I may get the S110V version just for the steel, but currently I have only one 3" blade in my collection which is the Salt 1, which I may replace with an aqua salt.

I was in your boat, kinda. I bought the Native 5 and it is my EDC. I don't like the backlock, but I live with it because the knife is awesome. I also think the Para2 is too big. I think you will be really happy with the Native 5. Comfortable, USA Made, G10, choil, beautiful shape. This is the only knife that has me ignoring the backlock. The pivot bushing has a lot to do with it. It completely collapses when pressing the lock. Super easy to close, though the backlock makes it stiff to open.

Wanting is not the same as needing... and telling the difference between the two isn't always easy!broo wrote:knives that are redundant or don't fill a specific niche, i try not to hold on to
You knew the knife wouldn't be used much, if at all. However good the Para2 - or any knife - may be, it's just a waste of money if it's going to collect dust in a drawer (unless you're a collector, which you don't seem to be). So I'd say you've made the right choice.
I wish I were that wise...

I can understand the Para2 being too large for EDC, but this is a personal decision. I have both a Delica and an Endura, but I choose a Para2 as my knife-of-choice. The Delica is too small for my hands, and the Endura just doesn't feel right: I think it has to do with the handle-to-blade ratio (I want to choke-up to where the choil would be). Also, neither have a choil which I desire very much. I am not a fan of FRN handles, and with the quality and price of Spyderco's G10 knives, I'll take those any day. I don't have a problem with backlocks from a safety standpoint, but I love the Para2's compression lock.
I am not interested in the Native (it's more expensive than the Para2), but I hope that it serves you well for many years to come. :spyder:

i respect your choice. There is no sense in keeping the knife if you feel you will never use, but..... i couldnt feel any more different. I would return ever knife i own before the para 2 goes back

Respect? I don't respect his choice at all. It has nothing to do with knife preferences. he bought a knife and messed around with it then changed his mind for no reason other then emotion and took/sent it back to the store. These knife shops are small business people who mostly are the janitor as well as the owner and make peanuts for profit in the first place then have absorb losses from people like thisPARATOM wrote:i respect your choice. What about the person who may potentially get the return?
People are way too selfish these days.

I always thought that "Return Policies" in businesses were incase of a faulty knife and not for "buyer's remorse".chuck_roxas45 wrote:Plus 1. He tried out a knife at the expense of a small business. Not cool.

When I first got my Para 2, it didn't seem like it was for me. It seemed too big for me, but I tried carrying it anyway. As I found out, it takes up little more space in my pocket than my Delica 3 did, and it has quite a bit of its own character. Now, I really enjoy the knife and use it for many chores that I see my delica 4 as too delicate for. I like it more than my endura FFG in VG10.
I had quite a bit of buyer's remorse on my gray FFG endura because I liked my para so much more so I did what people should do in such a circumstance: I gifted it to my friend who didn't have any spydercos. I think it's pretty wack as Chuck said. If you want to try a knife, find a store or a friend who has it. Otherwise, don't buy tools you're not sure you want.
