Spyderco military washers

#1

Post by SpydieZ »

Hey guys I bought the sprint run military with cts-xhp steel and brown g10 when it came out. I took it out of the box acouple times to check it Out and it was extremely stiff out of the box. So today I got it out to diagnose the problem and turns out one of the washers was bent in around the middle and slightly torn. If it was bent I could obviously just flatten it out but since it's torn I'm a bit out of luck. Does any one know where I can get some washers for the mili? Thanks in advance for any advice I've been stressin over it all day :(

Despite the fact it sounds like it was disassembled. If you email or call Spyderco, they will most likely help you and get you to send it in :)

Actually I just took the blade out :) which is a breeze to do. Thanks for the advice guys that's what I was planning on doing. I just can't believe it came from the factory like that! This is the first qc issue I've had so hopefully it will be handled quickly

I cannot understand that one washer would not be sent to you. They send out screws. Also there is a parts kit sold for the Endura & Delica.
I can understand your warranty now being void & that was your choice but to not be able to get some washers, no.
For us living in another country the option of sending it in, is in many cases not viable due to cost, so, for me, in a case like yours I would be making the washer.

Anonymous wrote:That's insane, you couldn't even buy a couple of them? I could see not giving them to you for free but it would be absurd they couldn't sell you any seeing how those washers would be extremely hard to get anywhere else seeing how they are probably like some of the others they use which has an ID of .156 with a thickness of .003.....very uncommon from what I've seen. Of course, you'd want to use a micrometer and check yours to be sure as I don't own a military. If they are that size the easiest thing to do would probably be to buy a sheet of material and have someone laser cut washers out of it.

It's not insane, and if you were in the business you'd almost certainly do the same, for several reasons. You want the knife to come back so it can be fixed at the factory so you can evaluate what went wrong and see if there are production lessons to be learned. You also want to make sure that the knife is put together with the correct parts, in the correct places, and assembled so that it will function safely and as designed.

Or, at least parts stores wouldn't sell pads and rotors!!! :D

Problem is, if they did sell the washers then that is giving us the go ahead to take our knives apart at will and some of us might not be mechanically inclined. I would bet Spyderco get a lot of knives back that are claimed to be defective from the factory but were really taken apart and put together incorrectly by the owner of the knife. Their warranty department would be overwhelmed by "faulty" knives. I'm not saying you ruined the washer SpydieZ. Just saying if Spyderco offered the washers it would open a can of worms for them.

Do you mean they won't send you washers or won't fix the knife under warranty?

the person i talked to said they can't send me the washers because "its not something they normally do" basically what they said they'd do is charge me $20 to put the new washer on themselves.. Which is the reason I took the blade out myself to prevent paying to send in the knife and prevent a month of my knife sitting in warrenty and repair. I was supposed to get a call back from someone else in the warranty department but it never happened. I am really disappointed I thought Spyderco would take care of me. whats the deal Sal this sucks?

I am sure they were just busy and did not have the time to call you back. They are limited on people in the warranty department. I would call back, but I am pretty sure they will want you to send it in. If you can, mic out the good washer and order some from an online knife supply shop
