Yeah - Lightnining Strike!
Wait a second - that mesh is not in all 3 dimensions, it is only on the top layer
That ain't Lightning Strike. It's a simulation of Lightning Strike.

Spyderco Prototype 2012 – Caly 3 Damascus Sprint
Despite the Damascus Delicas from the previous two years, this one still caught me by surprise. The Caly 3 Damascus Sprint is the latest in a line of folding knives that started over 15 years ago.

Sal explained that this model was made by popular demand, customers asked for it so they made it. This Caly 3 sprint run is destined to be a fine collector’s piece. If I recall correctly, the Damascus blade was made by Takefu in Japan, who also made the Damascus blades for the Delicas. It’s not a true Damascus, but it’s stainless so you can use it comfortably if you’d want to.

I’m not sure on the bolster material. The handle is carbon fiber. The knife felt nice and hefty, but not too heavy. The liners are still skeletonized, the same way as with the regular Caly 3 model. I’m definitely going to try to get one. I’m nuts for the Calypso jr./Caly 3/UKPK pattern of Spyderco knives.

That is a really nice looking knife! I like the Damascus pattern on this much more than I did on the Delicas. I think this just jumped on my "must own" list! Thanks for all your work and photos!Mr Blonde wrote:If I recall correctly, the Damascus blade was made by Takefu in Japan, who also made the Damascus blades for the Delicas. This is a 3 dimensional scale. It really is triangle shaped, and you are viewing it from at the smallest dimension of the triangle.hiredgun wrote:I'm very interested in the Nilakka and I like the clip design. I'm no expert on the properties and strength of G-10, but does the cutout on the scale highlighted below seem rather thin?
I am leaning towards it not being too thin.

A distinguished lurker.
Waiting on a Squeak and Pingo with a Split Spring!

This is truely a very nice knife!!! I didn't pre order it but after the meet I went and did it right away. The nice rounded scales are so sweet and the Damast pattern is indeed nicer then the one on the Delica. The only thing thats missing on this knife are Ti bolsters instead of stainless. But this would have resulted in a massive price difference.

If that were in a UKPK then I think it would be just about my favourite knife of all time ... can we have it in a non-locker please Sal? :DMr Blonde wrote:![]()
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)
Wow! I wasn't interested in the damascus Caly, but after seeing this...
Not what I expected! It's very nice to see polished pins instead of exposed screws all over the place, and those smooth bolsters really look great! My orange damascus Delica might end up being replaced by this. That pattern looks great too. If the production model looks like this, I'm definitely in.

Spyderco 2012 Prototype – Lum Tanto FB Sprint
Finally my chance to capture the one that got away! I have very few regrets in my knife collection, but not getting a Lum Tanto FB when I could, many years ago, is definitely one of them. This one looks more interesting to me too, a nice burgundy handle. I’m not sure about the handle material, was it called something like paperstone micarta?
