He must have been 19-20 years old when the Monkees started up. What a long, strange road...
Has anyone seen or heard from the other Monkees - Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, or Peter Tork? I heard that Mike (who had a decent country music career after the Monkees) was nearly blind now. And Micky is heading up the "Happy Together 2012" tour with the Turtles.
Dang, it makes me feel old...

Sad news. I enjoyed watching the Monkees' TV series back when I was a kid and still like hearing Davy Jones sing Daydream Believer when it comes over the radio.
Best wishes to Davy and his family. He will be missed.

It's hard to believe that Jones was 66. Then again, it's hard to believe that I'm 65.
Not a big fan of The Monkees, but I did watch the show both seasons it was on the air. It would have been interesting to see where they could have gone if they hadn't been limited to material written to appeal to the mainstream TV audience.
As I recall, there was a lot of controversy around whether or not they actually played their instruments in the studio. The guitar solo in "Last Train to Clarksville" would be a good example. I've always given them the benefit of the doubt, but they never recorded anything else with licks like that.
Our generation is losing its icons. RIP, Davy.
By the way, does anyone remember Mickey Dolenz from the ancient TV series "Circus Boy"?
