M390 Millie Lock Engagement
My M390 millie's lock engages really early. I did try exerting a bit of pressure on the spine but I wasn't able to make it fail. Can I see some pics of the engagement of those who have their M390 millies in? Thanks.

Hiya. What are the chances of the two of us thinking of the Millie at the same Time.

Did you try spine whack test? :)
One of mine looks the same, I put some pressure on spine and it is holding good. So more life.
BTW, the knife looks great. F&F is outstanding.

If I open my millie slowly, I have the same problem.chuck_roxas45 wrote:My M390 millie's lock engages really early. I did try exerting a bit of pressure on the spine but I wasn't able to make it fail. Can I see some pics of the engagement of those who have their M390 millies in? Thanks.

This image shows the lock engaging more than when I first opened it out of the box. It seems to engage further in as I open and close it more.
If I open the knife more quickly, the lock engages properly. I am hoping that this is just a matter or working it in and that it should be fine once I open and close it a few dozen times.
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Yup, that's it. Open slowly and it engages like that.Onionman wrote:If I open my millie slowly, I have the same problem.

Dunno, maybe framelocks. Haven't seen any liner locks that engage that way.Slash wrote:I've seen many custom knives that do the exact same thing. Good news is it's adjustable.

I'm referring to liner locks, not frame locks. I think it will adjust itself though. Once the blade tang gets that dent in it where it hits the stop pin will cause the lock to seat futher. I wouldn't try making any adjustments just yet.chuck_roxas45 wrote:Dunno, maybe framelocks. Haven't seen any liner locks that engage that way.

Saw them in person at the usn g3 gathering here in vegas. You can look up is 154cm dead thread where I posted a pic of my limited "tuxedo" emerson protech auto if you need proof I was there. I think I may even have the badge laying around somewhere.

So is this common? Or just a rare occurrence?

Better early than late, my experience is that nearly all liner locks will wear in a bit and then stop moving for a long time to come. If you don't have 100% engagement right now you probably will in a month or so.
