The C-60 Ayoob Must be Offered in Spyderedge
Got my brand new C-60 Ayoob PE with the G-10 handle today. It feels so good to have a new EDC that just demands respect like the Ayoob model does. As great as the original Ayoob was/is this G-10 model is truly the Ferrari of folders.
The only void I have now is that somehow, someway I've got to convince Spyderco to also do a Sprint run of this bad boy in Spyderedge. I have the older/original C-60 in Spyderedge but this new G-10 handle is truly a whole new ballgame all together. It's almost like the knife with a Pachmayr Grip but maybe even better
It's unbelievable what you can do with an older model by modifying the materials of the handle. This knife is so unbelievably cool that they should consider putting this blade back in the main line up. It's the model that I was able to get my boss hooked on Spyderco blades. And he was asking me this evening about getting him 2 more Spyders ordered up this weekend.
It absolutely must be made available in Spyderedge. Heck I've talked to at least 3 people who aren't really fans of Spyderedges but they do like the Ayoob in SE  I think my friends Doc Snubnose and Hannibal Lecter will both agree with me :D

Congrats JD, I know that you have been talking about getting another Massad Ayoob. Are you going to use it as an EDC. I bought the Massad Ayoob PE several months ago and it is an awesome knife. When I look at it now, it still has that same wow factor as it did the day that I first saw it. It is one of those that you show to people when you want to define what a "real knife" is. I would also be interested in a Spyderedge for the Ayoob.
The C-60 for EDC? Absolutely!!
Oh yes!! this is going to be in my EDC rotation for sure. No collector king or safe queen with this model >> because I truly believe that the more people that are exposed to just how great the ergonomics of this folder are they are going to DEMAND that this folder be back in the main line up.BAL wrote:Congrats JD, I know that you have been talking about getting another Massad Ayoob. It's just so interesting that there are indeed some people who don't really like serrated/Spyderedged blades that do like the C-60 Ayoob in SE. But with this G-10 handle I think that it would truly be a crime not to have this G-10 Ayoob model to return in SE.
I do remember back around 2004 or thereabout it was actually easy to get your hands on a PE Ayoob but rather difficult to nail one down in SE. But when a few devout Spyderheads got one in SE the fanfare grew exponentially.
The blade design/geometry is truly perfect for the Spyderedge and utilizes it to the utmost. Even if they would make it available in SE on a special order basis that would be great for me but I do wish that they would do one Sprint Run in Spyderedge to also accomodate the many collectors that would also love both variants. Because the C-60 in Spyderedge is also a user's dream.

Congratz JD on the MA. It is indeed a beauty. It's one of the knives I would also like to have very soon.

The G-10 handle makes it like a small chainsaw
No You're wrong there Blerv :D This blade is like Luke Skywalker's light saber except with real hardware to back it up with>>Blerv wrote:I like the Spydie-edge and think it would be great on this knife as you don't have the same penalty as knives without the extreme angle.
Plus is looks very Klingon. :D
And with a Spyderedge it's almost like a small version of a Salt Water Crocidile  With the aggressive belly and convex cutting edge of the Ayoob model the 2 just go hand in hand.>> The only other Spyderedged blade that comes even close to the Ayoob in Spyderedge is the SE blade on the C-44 big Dyad model.
With the Ayoob they truly got it right the first time. So why not do it again with that awesome, elegant G-10 handle  ???
The G-10 handle gives this blade so much more grip/purchase and the blade design gives it such an aggressive cutting edge>>> In Spyderedge it's almost like that of a small chainsaw. A G-10, Spyderedged Ayoob  It's just got to happen period :spyder:

i looked in my saved sites but i couldn't find it. IIRC Mr. Ayoob ex-wife? had a bunch of serrated models that she was selling from her little site. maybe someone else has a link. just in case you guys don't want to wait for Sal to make a new run of serrated Ayoobs.
edit: i found this thread http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.p ... ight=ayoob
and in it fellyjr links to the thread where the site is but it wont open up. maybe some of you computer gurus can figure it out.

We simply need the C-60/G-10 in Spyderedge
Yeah I vaguely remember Mrs. Ayoob having a website called "Dot's Attic" which she was selling some of her husband's serrated Ayoob models through that website for about $140** or so from what I remember. I thought at the time they were a bit pricey so I passed on that offer.tonydahose wrote:i looked in my saved sites but i couldn't find it. It might be possible that Mrs Ayoob might still have some left but I would seriously doubt it as popular of a collector piece as the Ayoob has become over the years.
But that's besides the point anyway because I think most of us would rather have the newer G-10 model in Spyderedge rather than the older models still left on the shelf. Nothing wrong with ones left on the shelf other than the G-10 model just has a much superior handle in my opinion.
I love many Spyderedged ( serrated) Spyder models but the Ayoob is probably my all time favorite with the possible exception of a couple of the Hawkbill models i.e. the Spyderhawk

It's a win-win design for both edge variants
You took the words right out of my mouth Blerv. Not only all the aforementioned but also take the configuration of the ease of working the blade with your hand position at a comfortable resting state.Blerv wrote:The radical angle makes the belly less frustrating (without limiting it). The hollow-grind makes for nice edge geometry. It's slim in the pocket. The tip is fine and easy for edc tasks.
Love it :) .
The edge is designed to be cutting instantly upon contact with just one simple raking motion. And with the Spyderedge it would be instant penetration.
A self defense gem indeed as well as an ergonomically perfect working blade. This is one design where your plain edge benefits almost equal the benefits of having a Spyderedge with the same blade geometry.
With the Spyderedge the position of the blade by virtue of the design makes it instantly ready for action.

I prefer the plain blade on the Ayoob (for no other reason than I just prefer plain blades) and I have a chance to get one at a pretty good price. I have been hesitating as it is a very purposeful looking knife. As always I haven't had a chance to handle one which always make the decision a little more challenging, but it does sound tempting.

I can appreciate the plain edged C-60 crowd indeed
Hey "DRKBC" I can't at all argue with you because the Ayoob is super in both edge variants. And I can understand those of you who haven't yet discovered the great potential of Spyderedges because it took me quite some time of experimenting to discover the wide array of uses for the Spyderedged version of the C-60. Because the Ayoob is a really super blade in PE no matter how you look at it. I'm still torn between using it or another recent Spyder I've just purchaced ( but it hasn't arrived yet :cool :) for my daily EDC. Because the Ayoob is just that good especially with the newer G-10 handle. The design has never left my all time top 10 list of favorite Spyderco blades that I used to list semi-annually ( in both edge types).DRKBC wrote:I prefer the plain blade on the Ayoob (for no other reason than I just prefer plain blades) and I have a chance to get one at a pretty good price. But please don't any of you dismiss that particular blade design of the C-60 in Spyderedge because the design is probably the most completely ergonomic design that Spyderco has given us up till now IMO and the potential for multiple uses is truly vast.
This isn't an "anti plain edge" thread by any means. I'm hoping by the discussion of this thead many of you Ayoob fans will come forward and testify how great the Ayoob design is in both PE & Spyderedge. Again it was one Spyder back in the early to mid 2000s that was really tough to find in Spyderedge. But did become popular in Spyderedge much more than most of the designs offered during that time period.
And in both edges it has a super wide array of uses in both utility and outdoor cutting chores probably more than any Spyder I can presently think of>> not to mention it's super potential in the "self defense" arena.

Thanks JD Spydo. Sounds like you are really sold on this one. I hope to see one at the dealer so I can get a better feel for it. But what you say makes sense, I could see it working as an EDC, I think I just need to get my mind around it. I tend to think of knives I use as an EDC as having a little more stout blade, a little larger handle and straight.
