Scales for a mule....

#1

Post by fuzzydog »

Bought my first Mule today....Cru Wear.

My talents lie far outside creating scales for the knife...can someone point me toward sources for scales?

Halpern Titanium is a popular source for pre-made Mule scales.

Cuscadi make excellent scales also. Sorry for the crappy photos, speedlight batteries are on charge right now.

I paid 75Euro($95 AUD / USD) for a full contour Carbon Fibre set including shipping.

The problem with sheaths is that every knife is slightly different, especially when dealing with custom hand made scales.

So making the sheath (at least in the case of thermo plastics like kydex) often requires forming the sheath around the actual finished product. So unless you want to have a go at making a basic kydex press.... Maybe you could try a generic leather sheath?

A little while ago somebody mentioned custom shop. I believe in Colorado, close to Spyderco, very affordable and Sal commented that Spyderco is using them for their products as well.
My problem is I want leather sheath.

They are called Sheath Pro and make an excellent kydex sheath. I also got a set of very nice cocobolo handles put on my COS Mule.

Jack, do you have pics of the cocobolo? Did you make them, or have them put on?

Christina at SheathPro made them and put them on. I was lucky enough to find out about them when I was at the SFO in Golden. I will put up a photo tonight when I get home, but they are nice.

I would like to make some snakewood scales but I don't have the necessary tools.

Thank you. Sound interesting. Do you know, if they can make leather sheath?
Do you have their contact info?

Great service and high quality!

I'm not sure about online ordering, I am pretty sure they need the knife for scale fitting but I'm guessing they could ship the sheaths. They offered to ship the Mule to me after putting the scales on, so it might work.

Contact info is: sheathpro@aol.com

I can't say enough good things about Christina at SheathPro. She made a sheath for my mule that hangs on my camp gear bag. She is very professional and does a great job. If you are in the market for Kydex/Boltaron options, She is the person to reach out to.

BH-
When I asked SheathPro only does Kydex. No leather. That might have changed though.

Try contacting JLS for ready made sheaths (I just recieved 2 from him) and toomzz is currently making me a custom one. They both seem to be very straight-up forum members and guys.
